About the RoleThis is a fully remote, part‑time, 1099 contracted position.
Responsibilities- Perform engineering failure analysis; specifically determine the cause and origin of damage, causes of fire, electrocutions, and equipment failures.
- Conduct site evaluations, field analysis, and assessments that include mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing systems.
- Provide evaluations for failures as a result of hail/wind damage, lightning strike damage, wind/hail, improper maintenance, improper installation, product defect, freeze events, machinery breakdown, wear and tear, general construction failures, and provide recommendations for remediation and repair.
- Safely access roofs, attics, and crawl spaces to photo‑document areas of interest.
- Identify and interview witnesses and/or other key parties involved.
- Prepare and submit findings and recommendations that can be used to resolve insurance claims or litigation matters.
- Active Professional Engineering license(s) required.
- Degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering or a related field.
- Well‑versed in building materials, codes, construction methods, and common modes of failure.
- Ability to adhere to tight deadlines.
- Availability to accept assignments and perform site inspections within 5‑7 days.
- Tech‑savvy across multiple software platforms, tools/equipment, and investigative techniques.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Analytical mind and strong problem‑solving ability.
We are seeking licensed (PE) Mechanical/Electrical Engineers with experience in forensic investigations and root‑cause analysis. Experience with power surges, lightning strikes, HVAC units, and construction system failures is preferred.
