Environmental, Health Safety (EHS) Manager
The Environmental, Health Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for leading and implementing programs that promote workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship. This role ensures that all health, safety, and environmental programs align with federal, state, and local regulations, including Cal/OSHA, EPA, DTSC, RCRA, DOT, SCAQMD, FRA, NFPA, and Fire Code requirements. The EHS Manager will drive safety culture, training, and risk mitigation strategies to support a safe and compliant work environment.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure company-wide compliance with federal, state, and local occupational health and safety regulations.
- Develop, implement, and regularly update policies to enhance workplace safety and minimize risks.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure continuous safety improvement.
- Manage injury and illness reporting, including performing root cause analyses and developing corrective and preventive action plans.
- Oversee the company’s workers’ compensation program, ensuring efficient case management and return-to-work strategies.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs in both English and Spanish.
- Establish, implement, and maintain emergency preparedness procedures and response plans.
- Track and report EHS performance metrics, providing actionable insights to leadership for continuous safety improvements.
- Lead regulatory compliance efforts, ensuring alignment with local, state, and federal standards, and serve as the primary liaison for regulatory agencies during inspections and audits.
- Lead monthly safety committee meetings, fostering open communication and a proactive safety culture.
- Ensure full adherence to hazardous waste management regulations, including compliance with RCRA, Cal/EPA, and DOT requirements.
- Oversee stormwater, wastewater, and air quality compliance in line with permit conditions.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with Facility Part B permit requirements for hazardous waste operations.
- Prepare and submit environmental reports, regulatory filings, permit applications, and all other necessary documentation to regulatory agencies.
- Engage with regulatory agencies during inspections and audits, providing necessary documentation and responding promptly to inquiries.
- Lead environmental risk assessments and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance environmental compliance across operations.
- Conduct regular environmental audits and inspections to assess compliance with regulatory standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Coordinate and manage environmental training programs for staff to ensure understanding of compliance obligations and best practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or hazardous waste management environment.
- 3+ years of experience in a leadership role within EHS, preferably in hazardous waste or chemical manufacturing.
- Supervisory experience with a demonstrated ability to mentor and develop team members.
- Strong knowledge of hazardous materials handling, chemical safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with chemical sampling, analysis procedures, and hazardous waste protocols.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate and apply California-specific EHS regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly preferred.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) (preferred but not required).
