Safety Specialist — oversee and implement safety programs across multiple construction projects. The ideal candidate will conduct safety audits, ensure compliance with policies and regulations, investigate incidents, and provide training to employees and project managers.
Responsibilities- Construction Site Audits & Inspections: conduct safety audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety procedures; monitor policies, procedures, programs, and standards related to construction safety; perform noise, ventilation, and gas testing to assess potential health risks.
- Incident Investigation & Reporting: investigate complaints and on-site accidents to determine root causes; recommend and implement corrective safety measures; collect and analyze injury, claim, and safety data to prepare reports and presentations.
- Training & Compliance: conduct construction safety and standard reporting procedure training for employees and project managers; review contractor-submitted Injury Illness and Prevention Programs (IIPPs) for compliance; coordinate and attend project site safety audits, pre-bid, and post-award contract meetings as part of the Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) team.
- Leadership & Administration: assign projects and review reports from lower-level personnel; ensure accuracy and completeness of safety documentation; perform additional safety-related duties as assigned.
- Experience:
10 years of full-time, paid professional experience in construction safety management; experience developing and implementing accident prevention programs for a large private or public organization. - Education (one of the following):
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related field;
- OR a recognized Professional Safety Certification in place of a degree;
- OR two years of college education, a Professional Safety Certification, and an additional two years of professional construction safety management experience to compensate for education.
- Preferred Certifications & Training: OSHA 500 and 40-hour HAZWOPER training; at least one of the following safety certifications: CSP (Board of Certified Safety Professionals), Licensed Safety Professional (NASP), Certified Safety Manager (NASP), CIH (ABIH).
