Job Description: We are seeking a Sr. Specialist, Manufacturing Engineer (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Specialist) to join our team in Canoga Park, CA, 2nd shift. The role involves developing, implementing, and analyzing manufacturing engineering plans and projects, and communicating them to internal and external customers. The engineer defines and transfers manufacturing and engineering tools, strategies, and systems; develops manufacturing strategies for specific products and processes;
creates weld schedules and oversees welds on RS25 rocket engines, THAAD vehicles and other advanced programs; supports automatic and robotic weld development; and oversees production of hardware build cycles, including GTA welding operations such as orbital and manual welds.
- Oversee and troubleshoot critical weldments ensuring best practices for weld fit‑up, cleanliness requirements, and weld parameters are followed, providing daily support to hardware flow.
- Develop weld parameters and document best practices to support production.
- Perform work to meet program targets and schedules.
- Define weld machine/specification requirements.
- Perform root cause analysis and complete corrective action determinations accurately.
- Accurately report problems, solutions, and results through concise written and oral communications, and communicate effectively between team members and customer counterparts.
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant welding experience;
Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related welding experience; or in lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related welding experience.
- Previous orbital, automatic, and robotic welding experience.
- Familiarity with tube fabrication and metal fitting.
- Experience working as a weld engineer or weld technician in aerospace with nickel, stainless, ferrous, and aluminum alloys.
- Understanding of welding fixtures and pre‑weld/post‑weld locations.
- Experience working with Torch Weld Jigs (TWJ) and setting weldments for exact shrink ages to fit TWJ post weld.
- Experience dispositioning hardware and performing root cause analysis.
- Process capability and statistical analysis experience.
- Previous experience developing weld parameters for EB welding.
- Familiarity with electronic planning, drawings, and pertinent documents such as weld parameters.
- Experience using and understanding appropriate PPE.
- Working with industry‑standard weld specifications (AWS D17.1, RL10011, etc.).
- Writing weld machine specifications.
- Using electronic planning and drawings.
- Moving large structures or hardware—understanding of rigging and crane use.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C., Denver, or NYC areas is [$94,000.00 MIN – $ MAX]. For Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, Cleveland, Ohio, and Vermont, the range is [$82,500.00 MIN – $ MAX]. This is not a guarantee of compensation; final offers may vary based on experience and geographic location.
