Role descriptionArcadis is seeking a Project Water/Wastewater Pipeline Engineer to join our dynamic Water Business Line in either Los Angeles or San Diego, CA. In this role you will lead and support the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater pipeline projects for municipal, utility, and private sector clients. We work to protect natural environments and water resources while powering our world for future generations.
Roleaccountabilities
As a Project Water/Wastewater Pipeline Engineer, you will lead and manage the design and delivery of pipeline projects, encompassing feasibility studies, preliminary and final design, and construction support. You will develop alignments, perform hydraulic calculations, and prepare detailed design drawings and specifications for water, sewer, and recycled water pipelines. You will act as a technical point of contact for clients, attend meetings, and support business development.
Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams (civil, structural, environmental, construction management) is key. You will ensure all deliverables meet Arcadis quality standards, client expectations, and regulatory requirements, and identify process improvements, value engineering, and integration of digital solutions such as BIM, GIS, and hydraulic modeling tools.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or mechanical engineering (or related discipline)
- 6-12 years of relevant experience in the design and delivery of water and/or wastewater pipeline projects
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in California, or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and hydraulic modeling tools (Info Water, Water
GEMS, Sewer
GEMS) - Strong technical writing, verbal communication, and organizational skills
- Proven experience coordinating with public agencies, utilities, and permitting authorities
- Master’s degree in civil or mechanical engineering
- Experience with trenchless technologies, condition assessment, and rehabilitation of pipelines
- Experience supporting or leading construction administration
- Background in sustainability, climate resilience, and integration of digital tools (BIM 360, ArcGIS)
- Active involvement in professional organizations (ASCE, AWWA, WEF)
