What

You’ll Get To Do
  • Represent Northrop Grumman to the supply chain with credibility, confidence, and professionalism, and support the maintenance of the approved supplier list.
  • Engage in program activities to identify and quantify supplier performance as a proactive risk‑mitigation.
  • Represent Supplier Performance Management (SPM) at various program reviews and review boards including but not limited to Configuration Control Board (CCB), Material Review Board (MRB), Program Management Reviews (PMR), Design/Peer Reviews, Manufacturing/Test Readiness Reviews and Corrective Action Board (CAB), Process improvement (CI), Supplier Product Readiness Review (SPRR), and provide input to critical supplier scorecards.
  • Perform specification/drawing compliance reviews and First Article Inspections approvals per AS9102 to ensure suppliers can ship conforming and timely products, and support receiving inspection on various categories of hardware such as PWBs, CCAs, cables and connectors, microelectronics, electro‑mechanical systems, and mechanical components & assemblies.
  • Perform process and product audits along with capacity assessments to ensure the supplier’s processes are robust and capable, and compliant with military and space requirements.
  • Review supplier quality history and drive activities to improve performance through partnership – return‑to‑green plans, initiate and manage SCARs (Supplier Corrective Action Reports) to address nonconforming material, identify root cause, and ensure robust corrective actions are implemented.
  • Assist with program cost estimate development related to supplier quality activities.
  • Liaise with SPM field supplier quality engineers for program related actions and information.
  • Support the development of entry‑level engineers to ensure team effectiveness and promote knowledge transfer across the organization.
  • Travel to suppliers as required to oversee quality investigations and complete design reviews.

The ideal candidate must have great communication skills, leadership skillset, a very positive relationship with internal and external teams (especially suppliers), be customer‑oriented with a great sense of urgency, be able to travel up to 25% of the time domestically, and be available to support local supplier site audits and meetings.

Basic Qualifications For The Principal Engineer Supplier Quality
  • Bachelor’s Degree – Minimum of 5 years of work experience in quality, manufacturing, or engineering. Master’s Degree – Minimum of 3 years of work experience in quality, manufacturing, or engineering.
  • US citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Experience with AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) and types of engineering drawings as described in ASME Y14.5 & Y14.24.
  • Experience with root‑cause/corrective‑action analysis tools and investigations with suppliers.
  • Experience with J‑STD‑001, IPC‑A‑600, 610, 620 or MIL‑STD‑883.
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Experience with a quality management system.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a related quality or engineering discipline and experience/certified in lean.
  • Experience with Six‑sigma quality engineering methodologies.
