Assistant Professor of Microbiology or Molecular and Cellular Biology #26-16
CSUN is inviting applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Microbiology or Molecular and Cellular Biology (#26‑16). The effective appointment date would be August 19, 2026, subject to budgetary approval. Salary range $83,349 to $92,610 per year, dependent on qualifications.

Position SummaryApplicants will teach laboratory courses (BIOL 477L Cell and Tissue Culture; BIOL 485L Immunology with Serology; BIOL 410L Medical Microbiology), core biology majors (BIOL 107, 315, 380), an introductory seminar, and a graduate‑level specialty seminar. The candidate must develop an independent, externally funded research program that engages graduate and undergraduate students and focuses on immunology, virology, microbiology, and/or cancer.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including laboratory instruction and seminars.
- Develop a funded research program and involve students in research.
- Provide regular office hours, attend faculty meetings, and contribute to department, college, and university service.
- Support equitable academic outcomes through teaching, mentorship, scholarship, and service.
- Ph.D. in cellular biology, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Instructional experience in person as an instructor.
- Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate research students.
- Research experience in an interdisciplinary area with emphasis on immunology, virology, microbiology, and/or cancer.
- Experience writing and submitting grant applications.
- Peer‑reviewed publications, including first‑author work.
- Ability to teach a cell and tissue culture course.
- Postdoctoral research experience of at least one year.
- Effective communication skills.
- Evidence of an independent, externally funded research program that engages undergraduate and graduate students.
- Demonstrated engagement with a diverse student body.
- Experience with culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes.
- Creating a student‑centered learning environment with active learning.
- Research/lab experience that includes working with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Inclusive approaches to mentoring.
- Demonstrated experience teaching cell and tissue culture, immunology, serology lab, and/or medical microbiology courses.
- Effective collaboration with colleagues in teaching, research, and/or service activities.
