Overview

Administrative Coordinator, Special Education Compliance Support and Monitoring (43G, School Support Administrator, 0515)

Under the direction of the Executive Director, Special Education or their administrative designee, the administrative coordinator provides leadership, coordination, and oversight of special education compliance, dispute resolution, and monitoring systems for LAUSD SELPA District-operated schools and LAUSD Charter SELPA schools. The position ensures alignment with federal, state, and District mandates to improve instructional outcomes and service delivery for students with disabilities.

Primary

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Administers and provides technical instructional expertise and guidance to school teams in the implementation of interventions, supports, and professional learning designed to improve student learning outcomes for students with disabilities
  • Coordinates and reviews all due process filings to provide appropriate level of support for instructional program, assessment, eligibility, determinations, and services under the jurisdiction of the Office of Administrative Hearings
  • Supervises and evaluates staff to ensure complaint instructional programs and service delivery at LAUSD SELPA District-operated schools and LAUSD Charter SELPA school sites in accordance with state and federal mandates
  • Oversees and supports day-to-day operations of the Dispute Resolution System for LAUSD SELPA District-operated schools and guides the LAUSD Charter SELPA schools on dispute resolution practices
  • Develops and oversees District-wide systems for Special Education private school programs, Intensive Intervention Program (IIP), and District compensatory services
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates outcomes of professional development for local District-operated schools and Charter SELPA schools, as well as staff of the Division of Special Education, using multiple delivery formats such as in-person, online modules, webinars, and video conferencing
  • Coordinates and monitors the implementation of the District’s Child Find obligation, creates systems to minimize missed or delayed services
  • Reviews, analyzes, and monitors due process data to reduce due process filings, identify systemic issues, and develop strategic resolutions
  • Collaborates with various departments to coordinate updates to policies, procedures, and manuals to ensure alignment with current state and federal regulations, promote consistent support compliance implementation and service delivery practices
  • Facilitates coordination and communication among central office, region, Division of Special Education, and LAUSD Charter SELPA staff in matters related to due process and compliance
  • Oversees the implementation of Intensive Intervention Program (IIP) services
  • Collaborates with the Behavior Support Office staff to analyze due process cases for interventions involving behavior-related issues and develop intervention plans to address barriers to learning for students with disabilities
  • Supervises the analysis of data to ensure that all aspects of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) are being implemented
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Salary
  • 43G, (School Support Administrator, 0515) – A Basis ($149,046 – $185,940) – 261 paid days
  • In the case of an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or over payment).
  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
  • This position is deemed certificated under Education Code Section 44065, but may not qualify for "creditable service" under Education Code Section 22119.5 for CalSTRS benefits. However, if the candidate chosen for the position is already a CalSTRS member, he/she can fill out an election form to remain in CalSTRS and thereby obtain CalSTRS credit for this service.
