Pay Rate: $17.78 – $18.72 per hour.

Job Summary

The Academic Tutor supervises tutoring sessions to help program participants master academic course material in specific subjects such as Math, English, Science, etc. as directed by the Lead Tutor. The role includes providing individual and small‑group tutoring after school through homework help and class material review, developing enrichment activities to enhance academic and social development, and leading workshops on college preparatory topics.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Lead academic tutoring sessions to help participants develop skills to master academic material.
  • Coordinate daily homework assistance and tutoring program for students.
  • Develop lesson plans and tutor in accordance with California Content Standards.
  • Assist in creating learning activities and supporting department objectives.
  • Complete tutorial log daily and submit monthly reports.
  • Monitor use of tutoring resources (laptops, calculators, books, etc.) during sessions.
  • Set up materials and prepare classroom for daily activities.
  • Maintain written logs of students’ progress and observations.
  • Communicate with Lead Tutor, Project Advisor, and Director regarding participant status.
  • Mentor students about college experience and career planning.
  • Present and lead workshops on college/career financial literacy and leadership development as needed.
  • Supervise students during field trips when required.
  • Perform other duties as required; subject to change at any time.
Essential Duties

Requirements
  • Must pass fingerprint clearance and background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications.
Education
  • Current college freshman or higher with mastery of target subject.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA in area of competency at high school level.
Experience
  • At least 1 year of tutoring or related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the students.
