Lead Teacher, Child Development Center
The Lead Teacher provides a model classroom environment, maintain a high-quality program based on developmentally appropriate practices, and mentor and supervise student teachers, teacher assistants and volunteers.

Position Hourly Rate Range: $21.74- $23.00
Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate's qualifications are determined to be above the minimum requirements of the position description.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Plans and implements developmentally appropriate curriculum, and provide appropriate guidance for children in order to facilitate a safe, challenging and comfortable learning environment.
- Promotes open communication and trusting relationships with parents, while maintaining confidentiality and demonstrating a sensitivity to cultural differences and diversity.
- Comply with community care licensing regulations and NAEYC Accreditation standards. Comply with the California Department of Education requirements including 'Desired Results' developmental profiles for children, parent/teacher conferences, environmental rating scales and participation in center self-study.
- Supervises, trains and evaluates student teachers, teacher assistants and volunteers.
- Engages in staff development opportunities to improve professional and personal skills (e.g., Early Childhood Education or Child Development courses, workshops, conferences and visits to other centers).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Solid working knowledge of current principles and practices in early childhood development and education.
- Good working knowledge of supervision principles and practices.
- Sufficient working knowledge of computers and software applications used by the Department.
Skills:
- Effectively organize, prioritize and handle multiple tasks to meet established deadlines.
- Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the needs of children and adults in a diverse child care community.
- Manage classroom efficiently by using appropriate child guidance techniques.
- Communicate effectively with adults and children, and work well as a team player.
- Exercise sound judgment and decision making. Detail-oriented and flexible.
- Strong planning, organization and prioritization, interpersonal, oral/written communication, teaching/training, public relations and supervisory skills.
- Bi-lingual in Spanish and English is preferred.
- Child Development Teacher Permit required.
- Bachelor's degree in Child Development or related field is required to be eligible for a Child Development Teacher Permit.
- Two years of teaching experience with children under the age of five.
- TB and fingerprint clearance required upon employment
