What You Will Teach

Students will receive support in core mathematics skills appropriate to their grade level, which may include number sense and operations (elementary), fractions and ratios (upper elementary/middle), and algebraic reasoning, geometry, and data analysis (secondary). Tutors will help students understand concepts, practice problem-solving steps, and build accuracy and fluency through consistent routines.

Major Topics Can Include

  • Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division strategies and fluency
  • Fractions, decimals, and percents (equivalency, operations, applications)
  • Ratios, rates, and proportional reasoning
  • Integers and rational numbers (as applicable)
  • Algebra foundations (expressions, equations, inequalities, functions—grade dependent)
  • Geometry (measurement, area/volume, angles, coordinate plane—grade dependent)
  • Data, graphs, and statistics basics (interpretation, mean/median, variability—grade dependent)
  • Word problems and mathematical modeling (translation from context to math)
  • Problem-solving strategies (showing work, checking reasonableness, multiple methods)
  • Study habits for math (error analysis, practice routines, test readiness)
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide small-group or 1:1 tutoring aligned to student needs and site expectations
  • Deliver structured sessions with clear skill objectives, modeling, guided practice, and independent practice
  • Diagnose misconceptions through student work and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Use developmentally appropriate strategies and materials to support diverse learners
  • Track progress informally through skill checks, student work, and observation to guide tutoring plans
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, supportive environment that builds student confidence and persistence
  • Communicate professionally with site staff and Concorde program contacts regarding attendance and session completion tracking
  • Adapt instruction based on student performance and teacher/site feedback while maintaining intended outcomes
Qualifications (Required)
  • Minimum of 60 college credits (or Associate degree in progress/completed)
  • Strong competency in mathematics appropriate to the assigned grade band
  • Experience working with school-age students in structured settings (school, tutoring, after-school, camps, youth programs)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain concepts clearly, patiently, and in multiple ways
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional; able to follow school policies and program boundaries
  • Comfort supporting learners with varied skill levels, including students who need remediation or structured supports
