The Career Center’s mission is to lead, develop, and connect the Cal Poly Pomona community in career readiness while preparing students for the future of work, human engagement, and civic leadership. The Career Center focuses on reimagining student career and professional readiness and emphasizes personal, career, and professional development across the entire undergraduate experience.

Position Overview

The Lead Career Coach for the College of Environmental Design (ENV) serves as the strategic leader for career readiness programming supporting students pursuing disciplines within the built and natural environments. This role partners closely with ENV leadership, faculty, and campus stakeholders to embed career education across curricular and co-curricular experiences while building strong connections with alumni and industry professionals.

The Lead Career Coach is responsible for shaping and delivering an industry-aligned, equity-minded career readiness model that supports students navigating studio-based curricula, experiential learning, internships, licensure pathways, and competitive professional opportunities across design- and planning-related fields.

Key Responsibilities

Career Readiness Leadership

  • Serve as the Lead Career Coach for the College of Environmental Design (ENV), supporting the campus-wide career readiness initiative.
  • Build strong partnerships across functional areas supporting career readiness, including first-year experience faculty, the ENV Student Success Center, employers, alumni, and event coordination partners.
  • Collaborate closely with the Dean, faculty, and staff to integrate career education into curricula and co-curricular experiences.
  • Develop and deliver training that embeds career readiness into academic programs and student engagement efforts.
  • As funding permits, recommend for hire, develop, and train additional ENV career team members to support a comprehensive and customized career readiness model.
  • Set strategic direction for industry-aligned career development services responsive to student needs and aligned with college, departmental, and institutional priorities.
  • Ensure efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the ENV career readiness model.
  • Collaborate with other College Lead Career Coaches to implement innovative practices, share resources, and deliver institution-wide initiatives such as campus-wide career fairs.
  • Design and implement assessment strategies to measure outcomes and impact.
  • Present career engagement data and metrics to ENV faculty and staff to inform continuous improvement.
Career Readiness Program Development
  • Lead career programs and services for ENV students, providing personalized career counseling and advising focused on self-assessment, exploration, job and internship search strategies, reflection, and strategic decision-making.
  • Develop a comprehensive portfolio of programming including lectures, speaker series, workshops, trainings, conferences, and cultural events in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Build students’ career confidence and social capital through targeted programming and curated career content.
  • Conduct classroom and student organization presentations addressing career readiness, professional skills, and planning strategies.
  • Oversee event logistics and assist with the development of marketing and communication materials to effectively promote ENV career initiatives.
