Head Start - Parent Engagement Specialist

We are seeking a Parent Specialist who is responsible for the development of the Non
- Federal Share plan, tracking and collection of In-Kind, the development of the parent handbook, and parent newsletter. The Parent Specialist will be responsible for planning and implementing parent orientations, the parent training calendar and the creation of weekly and monthly parent engagement activities at the site level. He or she is responsible for supporting and supervising parent interns.

• High School diploma or equivalent GED required. Expert in Microsoft Office computer skills required. Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred but not required. Successfully completes and maintains Basic First Aid and CPR certification.
• Experience in planning and conducting workshops, meetings, and public speaking.
• Experience working or volunteering in social or community services required.
• Experience working in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic setting. Experience as a Head Start or Early Head Start parent preferred.
• Some knowledge of current Head Start performance standards as they relate to Parent Engagement and Non-Federal Share.
• Knowledge of family dynamics, strategies for male involvement and family-centered practice.
• Must facilitate and model respectful, professional communication and teamwork, demonstrating a positive attitude
• Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor in difficult situations
• Must have computer skills, specifically word processing and data base applications

• Must possess a valid California driver's license, have use of a motor vehicle and provide evidence of automobile liability insurance.
• Must meet State health requirements including passing a physical examination as a condition of employment, and must provide verification of a TB clearance at the time of employment.
• Mandatory CPR and Basic First Aid certificate, which employee is responsible to maintain for the duration of their employment with Head Start.
• Fingerprints must be on file with the Justice Department. Official transcripts of educational attainment are required before interview is granted.
