Marymount seeks to hire an experienced French Teacher who inspires a love of language and culture and is committed to creating an engaging, inclusive learning environment for high school students.
Position SummaryThe High School French Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, rigorous instruction in French language and culture to students in grades 9–12. The teacher fosters proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The position supports the school’s mission by creating an inclusive, student-centered learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Plan and deliver effective French language instruction aligned with curriculum standards
- Teach courses ranging from introductory to advanced or AP French
- Develop lesson plans that incorporate speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills
- Assess student progress through quizzes, exams, projects, and presentations
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and communicate progress with families
- Create a classroom environment that supports diverse learners and encourages active participation
- Integrate cultural, historical, and contemporary perspectives of French-speaking countries
- Maintain accurate grading, attendance, and academic records
- Collaborate with the Modern Language Department Chair and colleagues on curriculum development
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events
- Uphold school policies and expectations for student behavior and academic integrity

- Bachelor’s degree in French, World Languages, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- Demonstrated fluency in spoken and written French
- Minimum of 3-5 years of previous high school teaching experience
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to engage and motivate adolescent learners
- Preferred Skills and Attributes
- Experience with AP, preferred
- Familiarity with proficiency-based instruction and assessment
- Commitment to culturally responsive teaching practices
- Willingness to contribute to extracurricular activities or language clubs
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom for extended periods
- Ability to speak clearly and audibly for instruction
- Ability to use standard classroom technology
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
