Employment Status Notice

Any individual hired into an AMU-represented position with a start date on or after September 15 will be classified as an at-will, probationary employee. At the conclusion of the school year, there may be an opportunity to transition to regular employee status.

Direct Instruction and Direct Services
  • Provide academic, behavioral, and transition supports and effectively instruct students in small group settings (for example, an academic success class) and/or in the general education classroom in collaboration with the general education teacher
  • Provide instruction and services aligned to students’
    Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and/or students assigned to receive support in a Mild/Moderate Special Day Program (SDP)
  • Serve as part of an interdisciplinary team to plan accommodations and modifications that provide access to core and/or alternative curriculum, including behavior support plans
  • Co-teach general education classes to increase service delivery for special education students in the general education setting
  • Provide consultation services, including (but not limited to):
  • Using evaluation data to accommodate and modify instruction and curriculum
  • Identifying and assessing behavior patterns
  • Identifying resources for staff members, families, and caregivers
  • Collaborate with families, administrators, testing specialists, school psychologists, social workers, and other professionals to develop and monitor educational plans that support students’ educational, physical, and social development
  • Provide direct support to Student Success Teams (SSTs) and Section 504 teams by developing intervention plans for at-risk students
  • Provide workshops and professional development for staff on special education procedures, guidelines, accommodations, modifications, and effective methodologies for serving students with disabilities in general education settings
  • Train paraprofessionals on special education guidelines and implementation of students’ IEPs; monitor and support paraprofessionals using an accountability system to ensure services are delivered in alignment with program requirements
  • Confer with parents or guardians and other educators to address students’ academic and behavioral needs and monitor progress
Coordination of IEPs and Services
  • Maintain accurate student records and develop IEP documents for students on caseload in accordance with laws, policies, and administrative regulations
  • Participate as an IEP team member in placement decisions and IEP development; analyze data to ensure accurate present levels of performance when revising IEPs
