Overview
Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Academic Instruction and indirect supervision of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs (SCEP), incumbents help people committed to State correctional facilities prepare to become productive and contributing members of society by training them in academic subjects and by helping them to develop socially acceptable attitudes and interests. Teachers give individual and group instruction, conduct assessments and testing, and participate as members of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
The teachers have responsibility for supervising the conduct of the students while in the classroom and may be called upon to assume general custody responsibilities in time of emergency. Required to maintain a valid teaching credential recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
The California State Prison – Los Angeles County (LAC) is in Lancaster, CA (Antelope Valley) – home to our State’s Poppy Flower. LAC is approximately forty-five minutes north of Valencia, CA. Vacancy is located in Lancaster, CA.
ResponsibilitiesInformational notes related to duties include:
- Provide classroom instruction in accordance with assigned subject matter (Elementary - Multiple Subjects or High School General Education) in a correctional facility.
- Assess and test students; participate as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Supervise student conduct in the classroom and assist with custody responsibilities during emergencies when required.
- Maintain compliance with credential requirements and applicable regulations.
