Overview
Part-time Temporary Lecturer in Geography, Geology and Environment. The Geography, Geology and Environment Department at Cal State LA seeks applications for a pool of part-time faculty lecturers with positions available as needed during the academic year. Positions will be filled as needed for each academic semester.
Part-time faculty lecturers are hired with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires from the pool are made when instructional needs arise to fill coursework offered by the department due to enrollment changes, shifts in tenure-track assignments, and other factors. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, but occasional academic year appointments are possible. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance.
Appointments are often made just prior to the start of the semester, so some lecturers may need to be available on short notice.
- Instruct courses, prepare class materials, grade assessments, and maintain office hours.
- Perform other duties as assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are determined by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.
- Support the academic success of students and contribute to an inclusive, diverse learning environment aligned with the university’s commitment to engagement and the public good.
Candidate must have an appropriate degree from an accredited university. For lower-division undergraduate courses, a master’s degree or doctoral degree and substantial teaching experience are required. For upper-division undergraduate or graduate courses, a doctoral degree and substantial teaching experience are required; candidates with a master’s degree who demonstrate extensive knowledge may be considered for upper-division undergraduate courses. Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level.
Ability to relate well to others in an academic environment and to work in a multiethnic, multicultural setting. Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching. Proficiency in written and spoken English is required.
Preferred QualificationsPreference will be given to candidates with experience working with diverse populations and who foster a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to relevant work experience and training.
Required DocumentationA US equivalency certification is required for earned foreign terminal degrees. The certification must translate the information into English and confirm that the highest degree is US equivalent.
