WOO design is the Los Angeles studio of London based WOO architects, a company created by the team that led the design of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. WOO specializes in designing and delivering permanent and temporary facilities and developing transformative experiences for global events. WOO are looking for designers and architects to grow their team in LA.

Position Overview

We are looking for senior designers, architects or project/design managers to join our team. Our ideal candidate passionate about sport and events, pro‑active and self‑motivated with excellent design, problem‑solving and communication skills. Ideally you will have experience working on sport venues or event overlay, be adept at managing several different projects or work streams in a fast‑paced environment, and able to direct junior team members, prioritise tasks and provide clear and concise reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute design strategies for projects that align with the overall brief, design principles and show creative leadership.
  • Research, evaluate and develop solutions to architectural problems. Advise on the most appropriate design response to satisfy all constraints and opportunities.
  • Manage, produce, and issue project documentation including detailed drawings, reports, specifications, statutory submissions and contracts as the project requires.
  • Build close relationships with clients, stakeholders and end users to ensure that requirements are understood and integrated into designs.
  • Work to agreed deadlines, planning in time for internal reviews.
  • Report to project director and senior management on progress, highlighting risks and issues.
  • Manage and track design change and implications, using agreed processes.
  • Attend, report from, and chair (as required) design team meetings. Prepare meeting records and agendas.
  • Play an active role in project tender processes including attending contractor and supplier interviews, assessing tender returns and advising clients.
  • Consult with local governments as required at different
    project stages, ensuring compliance with all statutory legislation.
  • Attend and report from site meetings as required and check on progress.
Skills & Requirements
  • Professional degree in a related subject
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Experience in sport venue or event overlay design or design management is preferred
  • Experience of site delivery
  • Knowledge of California Building Code and Permitting, preferable
  • Proficiency and demonstrable experience in design software, including Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)

The role is based in our office in downtown Los Angeles and on site. Candidates must be able to work in the United States.
