Appeals Hearing Officer

Location:

Los Angeles CA - 100% onsite, no remote work

Crystal Stairs is seeking an Appeals Hearing Officer to coordinate, conduct, and decide on appeal hearings for families seeking to resolve or dispute childcare program eligibility concerns. The Hearing Officer will perform the necessary research for each appeal hearing and gather all pertinent information needed to determine program compliance related to the appeal.

• Research, compile, review, and analyze family participant data related to the childcare program appeal process to determine program compliance.
• Schedule appeals hearings and update case management system with appeals status.
• Prepare detailed reports and decisions based on findings from hearings.
• Communicate findings and decisions clearly to participants/families.
• Communicate and provide documentation and outcomes to California Department of Social Services ("CDSS") and Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Proficient in report writing, documentation practices, and interviewing techniques
• Strong knowledge of government programs and contract compliance in the social services field.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Strong organization and adaptability.
• Must be able to interpret, explain and apply program regulations.
• Ability to analyze facts and circumstances to determine course of action.
• Proficient in Microsoft applications required. Familiar with Docu Sign, Adobe, and Zoom.

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university. Related work experience in social services or related field may be substituted for college degree.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a social services or nonprofit environment reviewing benefit eligibility. Experience with Child Care Subsidy programs preferred.
