Overview

The New York Post is heading West – and this is your chance to be a part of history as we open a brand-new newsroom and make a significant investment in Los Angeles. The California Post will be a game changer, putting the people of the Golden State first and holding the powerful to account across digital platforms and print.

This is a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity:
The California Post will bring The New York Post’s DNA of powerful, agenda-setting journalism to the West Coast and be a fresh and fearless voice for common sense.

Our focus will also go well beyond hard-hitting news and iconoclastic opinion. The nationally recognized Page Six will bring its sassy and brassy attitude directly to the entertainment capital of the world. The California Post Sports department will deliver muscular coverage of the biggest teams in town, from the locker room to the front office. Our Tech team will reveal the latest innovators and innovations that will shape the nation’s future.

Los Angeles is one of the great cities of the world, and it’s time L.A. – and California at large – had a bold, new voice. The California Post will be that voice. California, here we come!

As part of this bold expansion into Los Angeles, we are looking for a Copy Editor to join the California Post print team.

Reporting into the Print Production Chief, the Copy Editor will help craft the bold, witty, and unforgettable headlines that make Post front pages legendary. If you have a keen editorial eye, a knack for punchy phrasing, and the ability to make every word count—under deadline pressure—this is the role for you.

Responsibilities
  • Write engaging, clever, and attention-grabbing headlines that embody The Post’s unmistakable voice.
  • Craft sharp and creative captions that enhance the impact of images.
  • Edit and proofread articles, features, and columns for clarity, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style while preserving the Post’s unique tone.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency in facts, names, and details across all content.
  • Make seamless trims to copy without losing the power of the story.
  • Collaborate closely with writers, editors, and designers to bring stories to life.
  • Work quickly and efficiently under intense deadlines to ensure stories are polished, precise, and publication-ready.
  • Assist with additional editorial tasks as needed to support the print newspaper team.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • At least five years of newsroom copy-editing experience, specifically in print journalism.
  • A razor-sharp sense of humor and a talent for crafting memorable headlines.
  • Deep familiarity with AP style and The Post’s editorial standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with a strong grasp of grammar and style.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure newsroom environment.

Note: This role will be expected to report on-site 5 days per week. The shift time will be 12pm to 8pm.

At The New York Post we recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. As a result, our ranges reflect our good faith estimate to pay fairly as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate s experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.

In addition to compensation, the company provides eligible employees a comprehensive and highly competitive benefits package, with a variety of physical health, retirement and savings, caregiving, emotional wellbeing, transportation, and other benefits, including “elective” benefits employees may select to best fit the needs and personal situations of our diverse workforce.
