Overview

Primary

Responsibilities
  • Operate, maintain and safeguard the technical assets of the theatre, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, communications equipment, and the use and maintenance of stage facilities.
  • Determine the necessary technical supports, such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, necessary for events and performances in advance of production dates.
  • Design, set up, maintain, and operate lighting and sound systems for theatre, dance, music and other productions and projects; assist guest designers with technical matters.
  • Advise the Senior Vice President of Production Experiences and the Executive Team as needed, on the technical specifications, costs and usage of technical equipment required for individual productions and supervise the implementation of approved technical designs.
  • Monitor the condition of production equipment, arranges for repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Assist with the preparation and control of production budgets; maintains inventory and order specialized supplies.
  • Supervise and assist with set and stage construction and management.
  • Attend technical week rehearsals, in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of the mounting of the show.
  • Assist in recruiting, training, and assignment of tasks to student workers and technical production staff members.
  • Lead, supervise, motivate and inspire the technical production team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Theatre, or related field. Master’s degree in Arts Administration, Theatre Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of prior experience as an Associate Technical Director or Technical Director or similar in the field of theatre production.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience managing a diverse team of technical production staff members.
  • Experience in a non-profit arts management/leadership position preferred.
  • Knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures of theatre, dance, and music productions and presentations including stage, set, sound and lighting design and implementation; stage management; stage carpentry; appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate the need for technical support for various events and performances; plan, develop, schedule and provide the technical supports required for each event or performance; design and construct sets; design lighting and sound systems appropriate to each performance and oversea stage crews and student workers.
  • Experience with Theatre Design & Technology (including CAD programs, Qlab, ETC lighting consoles, DANTE and digital audio systems).
  • Excellent interpersonal leadership, organization, and communications skills (both written and oral).
  • Strong work ethic, stamina and passion for the performing arts and working in an educational environment, as well as the flexibility and experience to deal with unpredictable pressures and a variable workflow or work activity.
Position Information
  • This is a full time exempt role, working on average 40 hours per week. Schedule to be determined based on department and organizational needed, which may include nights and /or weekends.
  • The salary for this position is $80,000 annually.
  • This position is subject to a background check upon a conditional offer of employment and a reference check.
  • This is a fully in-person Position.
