KDG Construction Consulting is seeking a Deputy Building Inspector to support our quality assurance and construction inspection team in a high-priority infrastructure environment. This role is responsible for providing specialized inspection support across multiple complex programs, ensuring all construction activities are delivered safely, on time, and in strict accordance with building codes and quality standards. The Deputy Building Inspector acts as a critical technical resource, verifying that structural elements meet required specifications while enforcing a strong health, safety, and environmental culture.
This position plays a key role in ensuring schedule certainty and making sure that construction work meets the required quality standards within an active, operating environment.
The Deputy Building Inspector is responsible for managing the technical integrity and quality of all specialized construction inspection activities. This role requires a professional with extensive field experience and a deep understanding of the project construction life cycle, from implementation to closeout. The Deputy Building Inspector plays a critical role in supporting the verification of construction methods, testing, and documentation, ensuring that construction risks are optimized and that industry standards and local building department regulations are strictly adhered to.
Key Responsibilities Technical Inspection & Quality Assurance- Conduct specialized inspections across various disciplines, including concrete construction, steel construction, drilled-in anchors, and spray-applied fireproofing
- Apply comprehensive knowledge of various disciplines, methods, and techniques used during construction and installation to identify and address code violations
- Ensure all work is performed and inspected according to the latest versions of plans, specifications, submittals, and RFIs
- Possess a thorough understanding of methods used throughout construction to ensure all aspects meet required standards
- Create and maintain comprehensive daily inspection reports that capture the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all construction work activities
- Ensure reports are clear, concise, and accurately reflect daily progress and field conditions
- Track various changes, verify time and material work, and measure/document job quantities to assist in reviewing monthly progress payment requests
- Utilize electronic equipment and Project Management Information Software (PMIS) to review contract documents, change orders, and submittals with minimal supervision
- Lead the quality and safety initiatives for the assigned scope, ensuring the use of sound and safe construction practices
- Coordinate with multiple stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and city officials, to resolve complex construction issues
- Maintain alertness to possible problem areas and take preventative action to ensure milestones are met
- Participate in necessary coordination meetings with contractors and trade partners to preserve project principles and constraints
- 5+ years of experience performing as a Deputy Building Inspector on large-scale, significant construction projects
- Valid Los Angeles City Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) Deputy Licenses in the following disciplines:
- Concrete Construction
- Steel Construction
- Drilled-in-Anchors/Seismic Resistance
- Spray-Applied Fireproofing
- Proof of Cal-OSHA 30-hour training completed within the last 4 years
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Training/Certifications in Fall Protection and Harness, Confined Space Entry, and CAL OSHA-30
- Proficient in Project Management Information Software (PMIS) for inspection/document control (e.g., PMWeb, Adobe Pro, Bluebeam)
- Ability to obtain a site-specific security badge (SIDA or equivalent) prior to the official start of work
- Possession of additional LADBS Deputy Licenses beyond the required list
- Experience overseeing compliance on complex programs requiring coordination with city officials
