Traveling Project Safety Manager (United States) – Turner Construction Company
This is a full-time traveling assignment supporting projects across the United States, with project experience in Aviation, Data Center, Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, Industrial/Manufacturing, and EV/Battery/Renewables market segments.
Responsibilities- Lead, direct, and enforce Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) on a single construction project, based on safety staffing requirements as defined by HQ EH&S policy.
- Provide safety leadership, manage time and resources for the assigned project, and promote safe work practices.
- Assess project safety practices and exposures, develop and implement action plans to mitigate risks, and drive improvements in safety awareness and activities.
- Communicate requirements for performance improvement to project leadership and teams, using project-specific safety standards and EH&S policies and procedures.
- Understand site safety trends and participate in reducing incident rates toward BU goals, managing regulatory exposures to zero citations where possible.
- Develop training for site-specific needs to educate project management, employees, subcontractors, and Turner Trade employees on EH&S programs and safe work practices.
- Enforce safety programs and related policies; promote compliance with Federal, State, Local regulations, and owner contractual requirements.
- Maintain and enhance working relationships with project staff and subcontractor Safety Representatives.
- Identify unsafe actions/conditions and implement immediate corrective actions in accordance with Turner, Federal, State, Local regulations, and owner requirements.
- Develop accountability models for pre-planning activities and subcontractor/trades tasks; review subcontractor safety programs for compliance.
- Review Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) for subcontractors and trades; lead preconstruction planning meetings to review site safety programs and risk mitigation plans.
- Develop safety action items for preconstruction meetings and verify subcontractors conduct training as per OSHA standards.
- Conduct worker orientation programs and record participation; collaborate with project leadership to create project-specific safety reports and assess metrics.
- Ensure timely logging of subcontractors’ toolbox talks; conduct safety audits and issue reports for corrective actions as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited program in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field; minimum eight (8) years of related construction safety experience or equivalent.
- Construction Health Safety Technician (CHST) certification required or within 2 years of appointment.
- Completed OSHA 30-hour training and maintain current First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED certifications.
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and local EH&S regulations; strong safety principles and their application on construction sites.
- Ability to identify known and potential safety exposures and lead corrective actions; familiarity with general construction operations.
- Strong leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills; professional verbal and written communication and presentation abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail; analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- 50% - 100% national travel required.
The role requires physical ability to climb stairs and ladders, operate in construction environments, and lift up to 50 pounds as needed. Reasonable accommodation may be made for individuals with disabilities.
Work EnvironmentWork is performed at construction sites with exposure to moving mechanical parts, heights, fumes, and variable weather conditions. The employee may also work in office settings. Safety policies, procedures, and applicable laws must be followed.
