We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Senior Building Inspector to join our team of professionals. This position offers great opportunity for dynamic, motivated self‑starters to work on a variety of work assignments. Responsibilities- Participates in the inspection of public works construction to assure compliance with specifications, city standards, regulations, and safety conditions. Review project plans and specifications for completeness, accuracy and compliance with city standards and specifications; recommend changes and improvements as appropriate.
- Understand and interpret engineering plans and specifications associated with civil engineering projects.
- Maintain detailed records and information to include daily inspector’s reports and digital photographic records of work.
- Make field measurements and calculations as necessary. Report works not in accordance with specifications and recommend work stoppage for non‑compliance.
- Prepare inspection checklists, interim and final punch lists, conduct final walk‑through and verify project completion.
- Prepare field sketches and maintain a current set of as‑built drawings reflecting all changes to the plans, maintain documentation for each change to plans.
- Coordinate materials testing, and review reports for conformance with specifications. Simultaneously handle multiple projects with varying degrees of complexity under pressure of deadlines. Issue notices of non‑compliance, stop notices, and field orders, as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Performs daily field inspections of residential, commercial and public facility construction projects.
- Interacts with the public and explains technical information to both technically and non‑technically trained individuals.
- Reviews residential and commercial plans and engineering calculations for building components to insure compliance with applicable codes.
- Provides recommendations regarding interpretations of City, State, Federal, and Construction standards, as well as local ordinances.
- Maintains accurate records to document inspections, test results, and additional details pertaining to inspections.
- Maintains computer logs of inspection reports, entering inspection results into permitting software.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology
- Must possess the ability to positively interact with the other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good time management, organization, and attention to detail skills
- Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment
- Candidate must be able to handle multiple projects in a fast paced atmosphere
- Candidate must stay familiar and up to date with different editions of the International Building Codes.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.
- 10+ years of experience in building inspection
- ICC Combination Residential certifications preferred
- ICC Combination Commercial certifications preferred
- California‑specific licenses and certifications highly desirable
- CASp Certification is a plus
