Assistant Camp Director. You will work closely with the Camp Director to oversee daily camp operations, support staff, and ensure a joyful, safe, and inclusive experience for all campers. This role leads and supervises the Extended Care program and provides operational leadership during busy periods. It also involves staff support and team management, offering hands-on leadership development in a dynamic setting.
Responsibilities- Extended Care Program Management (After Camp Program):
Independently direct, plan activities, train, and supervise the Extended Care program, leading our after-camp care programming (3pm–6pm). - Create a safe, fun, engaging environment by balancing camper safety, operational needs, and staff support.
- Maintain staffing ratios and release camp counselors and interns as needed.
- In sites with multiple Assistant Camp Directors, designate an extended care lead as needed and ensure coverage by all ACDs.
- Daily Camp Operations:
Collaborate with the Camp Director to ensure a safe and joyful program; act as manager on duty in the Camp Director’s absence. - Flexibly assist with managing camp rotations and cover duties; lead camper groups or facilitate curriculum as needed.
- Lead by example, participate in camp activities, chants, songs, and skits to promote camp spirit and customer service.
- Partner with the Camp Director to coach the camp team, with emphasis on managing Summer Interns.
- Supervise and assign daily tasks to staff; coordinate coverage during breaks; oversee Extended Care responsibilities.
- Administrative Support:
Use camp systems such as Salesforce and the Camp Planner to complete essential administrative tasks related to family registration and communication with families. - Apply creative problem-solving to prioritize daily tasks while maintaining camper safety.
- Build skills through ongoing training and support, including coaching, mentorship, and leadership development.
This is a temporary/seasonal role requiring consistent availability Monday–Friday during the summer camp season. It is an on-site position;
Galileo Camps operate multiple camps within the region and exact work location will be confirmed during the hiring process. Full-Time and Part-Time Assistant Camp Director roles may be available based on camper enrollment per location. Shift times vary and may run from 7:00 am to 6:30 pm local time.
- Full-Time: 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday
- Part-Time:
Up to 30 hours/week, Monday–Friday - Employment start and end dates vary by location
Your exact pay will be determined based on location and tenure:
- For new staff (first-year with Galileo), pay rate is $___ per hour.
- For returning Galileo Alumni staff, rate may range from $21 to $25 per hour, based on role history and tenure.
- All staff receive a training pay rate for hours worked prior to the start of camp, typically at the local minimum wage.

- 6+ months of leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Experience mentoring, coaching, or supervising children in groups of 15+
- Availability for full-time camp work (4–8 consecutive weeks, depending on location)
