Overview
An food manufacturer and distributor seeking an experienced VP of procurement to join their team. This is a key executive role for a dynamic leader passionate about the food industry.

Responsibilities- Strategic Sourcing: Develop and execute comprehensive procurement strategies for all perishable and non-perishable food products (including dry and frozen ingredients), packaging, and distribution supplies.
- Vendor Management: Build and cultivate strong, long-term relationships with growers, manufacturers, and third-party vendors to ensure a consistent and high-quality supply chain.
- Contract Negotiation: Lead negotiations to secure optimal pricing, delivery terms, rebates, and favorable conditions across all procurement categories.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Inventory, Logistics, Sales, and Operations teams to accurately forecast demand and align procurement activities with overall business objectives.
- Performance & Compliance: Monitor supplier performance using key metrics (e.g., order accuracy, fulfillment rates, cost variances, on-time delivery). Ensure strict compliance with all food safety and regulatory standards (FDA, USDA, HACCP, FSMA).
- Cost Optimization: Drive significant cost savings through strategic sourcing, vendor consolidation, and continuous improvement of procurement processes.
- Market Analysis: Stay current on commodity markets, global supply chain trends, and potential disruptions to inform strategy and mitigate risk.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing procurement team. Oversee all aspects of talent management, including recruiting, hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. An MBA is preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive procurement experience in the food distribution or wholesale industry, with a proven track record in a leadership role.
- Skills: Strong understanding of diverse food categories (fresh produce, dairy, frozen, dry goods);
Demonstrated success in negotiating with manufacturers, co-packers, and logistics providers;
Expertise in inventory planning, sourcing analytics, and contract management;
Proficiency with ERP/procurement systems and the Microsoft Office Suite;
Deep knowledge of food safety regulations and compliance standards;
Exceptional leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Experience: 10+ years of progressive procurement experience in the food distribution or wholesale industry, with a proven track record in a leadership role.
Travel: Willingness and ability to travel up to 25–40% of the time to domestic and international suppliers, partners, and industry events.
