Controller, Accounting, Accounting Manager

Overview

A global media and professional services organization is seeking an experienced Controller to step into a high-impact leadership role during a critical period of financial cleanup and audit execution. This role is a resignation backfill and will play a central part in stabilizing accounting operations, closing the books, and successfully completing multiple overdue audits in a complex, multinational environment.

The company operates across North America and Europe with additional international entities and serves leading filmmakers and content creators through a portfolio of well-known brands. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the close process and partner closely with external auditors to complete delayed audits for multiple fiscal years
• Drive the completion of the current-year audit under a non-negotiable deadline
• Address historical accounting gaps, including incomplete documentation, insufficient topside entries, and previously unrecorded entities
• Own complex revenue recognition matters and related disclosures under both US GAAP and IFRS
• Manage accounting for a multinational, multicurrency environment, including monthly foreign currency remeasurement and consolidation
• Oversee accounting operations across international entities, including statutory audits outside the US
• Serve as a key accounting partner to business unit leaders across multiple divisions
• Manage and develop a team of three accounting leaders (Assistant Controller, AP Manager, Payroll Manager)
• Ensure accuracy and integrity of the general ledger (SAP) and related financial reporting
• Partner with internal and external technical accounting resources as needed

Required Qualifications

• Active CPA designation
• Background in public accounting (Big 4 or mid-tier firm required)
• Prior Controller-level experience in complex or fast-changing environments
• Deep knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS
• Strong audit leadership experience, including managing demanding auditors
• Comfortable operating in ambiguous situations with imperfect historical records
• Experience working with international entities and multiple currencies

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a services-based business (media, entertainment, professional services, or similar)
• Prior exposure to private equity-backed or highly acquisitive organizations

Additional Details

• Expect 50-60 hour workweeks, particularly through audit completion
• Role is remote-first, but Los Angeles residency is required
• Organization observes extended holiday shutdowns
• External technical accounting support is available as needed
