THE CITY OF PLACENTIA IS NOW RECRUITING FOR THE POSITION OF POLICE SERVICES OFFICER.

Position SummaryThe Placentia Police Department is seeking a dedicated individual who works with integrity and values public service to serve as a Police Services Officer. Under the direction of the Support Services Administrator, the Police Services Officer performs a variety of duties and works in several areas of the police department, including the jail.
Responsibilities- Process the entry and release of persons in custody, including preparing booking reports and release forms; fingerprinting, photographing, and safeguarding entrusted property; prepares reports that do not require the presence of a sworn officer.
- Enforce parking violations; impounds vehicles; and perform other related duties as assigned.
- Obtain personal history and medical information from prisoners and complete booking paperwork; feed prisoners and inventory, book, store, and release property to owners and other authorized personnel.
- Assume responsibility for the welfare and safety of all prisoners within the city jail facility and maintain physical control of prisoners; perform security, safety, and health checks of persons and the facility.
- Coordinate visiting procedures, including those between prisoners and bail bondsmen, attorneys, and any other approved visitors.
- Oversee maintenance and cleanliness of the jail facility.
- Release prisoners by issuing citations, receiving bail/bond, or transportation to the county jail facility or other designated custodial facilities (such as state prisons).
- Patrol an assigned area on foot or by vehicle to enforce parking regulations, and issue citations for various parking violations.
- Locate, mark, and arrange for the storage of abandoned vehicles, illegally parked vehicles, or vehicles to be stored or impounded as a result of arrest.
- Receive and respond to community inquiries regarding criminal, civil, and traffic problems, and assist the public by answering questions and referring appropriate problems to other personnel or referral agencies when appropriate.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and the City.
A high school or GED equivalent, supplemented by college-level coursework in law enforcement, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field; one year of parking enforcement experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses and Certifications- Valid, current driver’s license.
- Certification of completion of jail training school, certification of chemical weaponry, and driver training.

All applications will be reviewed, and only those candidates deemed most qualified based on their submitted education, training, and experience will be invited to participate in the selection process. The selection process may include, but is not limited to, oral interviews and/or written exams, performance tests, and oral presentations. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment-eligible list from which hires may be made.
The list is valid for up to 1 year, or until an insufficient number of candidates remain, whichever comes first.
Under California law (California Government Code Section ), all City of Placentia employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers (DSW). In the event of a catastrophic event, City of Placentia employees may be expected to fulfill emergency action assignments. As DSWs, employees may be assigned to assist in any disaster service activity that promotes the protection of public health and safety and preservation of lives and property.
