Position: DEP Team Software Developer 1/2

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Software Developer 2 or Software Developer 3 level, depending on the skills and experience of the selected candidate. Additional responsibilities will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. The Weapons Research Services - Weapons Mission Technology (WRS‑WMT) group is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Software Developer to support the development and maintenance of mission‑critical applications deployed across the Department of Energy (DOE) complex on both classified and unclassified systems.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, self‑starting, motivated, and technically proficient, with a strong desire to learn and contribute to the design, implementation, and support of software solutions that enable LANL's Weapons Mission. In this role, you will work closely with customers, product owners, and end users to understand business needs, develop creative solution concepts, and contribute to long‑range technical objectives.

This position offers the opportunity to grow your professional expertise while working collaboratively in a modern, agile development environment. This role involves assisting in the research, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of systems using technologies related to:

  • Requirements Management (RMS) – including IBM DOORS Next
  • Product Data Management (PDM) – including Windchill PDMLink
  • Electronic and Mechanical Computer‑Aided Design (CAD)
  • Manufacturing Process Management (MPM) – MPMLink
  • Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) – including Cameo and Teamwork Cloud (TWC)
  • Material Data Management – including Granta MI

The selected candidate will assist in designing, developing, and supporting applications while actively learning from senior team members and contributing to the team's technical direction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, test, and maintain software applications and tools supporting LANL's Weapons Mission.
  • Collaborate with customers, engineers, and IT professionals to define and implement software solutions.
  • Customize, configure, and maintain large‑scale product‑lifecycle, content‑management, and materials‑information systems (including Granta MI).
  • Support Model‑Based Systems Engineering workflows, including Cameo and Teamwork Cloud (TWC) integrations.
  • Contribute to requirements analysis, system design, and documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and continuous‑improvement activities.
  • Ensure all work meets LANL's safety, security, and quality standards.
  • Demonstrate expertise in balancing independent work with collaborative efforts in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Maintain a record of success in developing and sustaining strong working relationships with colleagues.
Software Developer 1 ($71,200‑$112,900)

As a Software Developer 1, the employee assists in developing, testing, and maintaining software tools and applications that support LANL's mission. The role involves working closely with senior developers to implement solutions in accordance with established design and coding standards, participating in requirements gathering, documentation, and code reviews, and learning to customize and configure product‑lifecycle and content‑management software under guidance. The position contributes to troubleshooting, debugging, and continuous improvement of software quality, while consistently demonstrating a commitment to LANL's safety, security, and quality standards.

Developer 2 ($85,900‑$139,000)

In addition to performing the responsibilities of a Software Developer 1, the Software Developer 2 supports LANL's Weapons Mission software toolsets by developing creative and innovative solutions focused on managing large records collections and complex data systems. This role enables scientists and engineers to efficiently locate, analyze, and act on data across multiple systems, and involves customizing, configuring, and maintaining large‑scale implementations of product‑lifecycle and content‑management software packages.
