What You Will Do

You will perform high‑impact research at one of the world's most prestigious and innovative multidisciplinary research institutions. The Primary Physics (XTD‑PRI) group in the X Theoretical Design (XTD) division is seeking motivated candidates for summer student internship appointments. Typical summer internships are 10‑12 weeks.

A Undergraduate internship provides an opportunity for mentoring, hands‑on technical experience, and professional development through a formalized work plan complementing the students' chosen area of study. During this internship, you will be given one or more of the following tasks:

• Use modern applied mathematics tools to analyze and solve systems of differential equations
• Run simulations of high‑speed fluid flow problems
• Develop Python code for execution and analysis of simulations
• Analyze simulation results and compare with data

Minimum

Job Requirements:

• Enrollment in a Bachelor's Degree program in Physics, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field
• A minimum 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA
• Familiarity with the usage of scientific software packages and the ability to perform analytical calculations
• Ability to work within a collaborative team environment
• Desire to learn new things and openness to work on different projects

Education and Experience:

Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics, engineering, physics, or a related field.

Qualifications:

• Exposure to and interest in Agentic AI and/or AI Agents
• Familiarity with scientific research methods and data demonstrated by completed coursework in the natural sciences
• Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbal and written) well in a professional scientific context
• Proficiency in computer programming, preferably in broadly used, general‑purpose programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Python, or MATLAB)

Work Location:

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
