What You Will Do
The Bioscience Division is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic post-bachelor's candidate interested in performing research within Genomics & Bio-analytics, Microbial & Biome Sciences, and Biochemistry & Biotechnology. The successful candidate will work with a team of scientists, technicians and students on a variety of projects ranging from exposure science and bio-sample analysis to method development, data acquisition, and data processing. The student will be expected to contribute to projects as need arises.
The ideal candidate is meticulous, self-starting, independent, and able to communicate professionally. Depending on performance and funding, there are opportunities to extend the appointment by transitioning to other LANL positions or continuing education.
Depending on your skill set, this position will fulfill a role in one of the Bioscience Division’s three groups: B-GEN, B-IOME, or B-TEK. The student will attend group meetings, conduct research, report results to mentors, and partake in on-the-job training that may lead to peer-reviewed publications and grant proposals. Attendance at seminars and LANL functions is encouraged, and networking and social events are also available.

- General background in biology, chemistry, or analytical sciences.
- Ability to learn and effectively execute new laboratory skills.
- Competence with computers and software for word processing, data processing, and data visualization.
- Ability to maintain and record work performed, data obtained, and to write and follow detailed protocols.
- Able to present research results clearly and succinctly in written and oral formats.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team.
- Commitment to a minimum of 40 hours per week on a consistent schedule.
- Strong time-management skills with the ability to see tasks to completion.
Education/
Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, analytical science, or a related technical field obtained at the time of hire or within the past three years. Candidates may not yet be enrolled in graduate school.

Demonstrated experience in Genomics & Bio-analytics, Microbial & Biome Sciences, or Biochemistry & Biotechnology; experience with biological sample preparation yielding quantitative/qualitative results; oral and written communication skills shown through presentations or peer-reviewed publications; desire to publish and assist in grant proposal writing.

WorkLocation
The position is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
