What You Will Do
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to do cutting‑edge experimental fluid dynamics research? The Extreme Hydro team at Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for a post‑doc (2‑3 year appointment) to join our team! Our focus is designing innovative experiments with precision measurements under various flow conditions, including subsonic and shocked variable‑density turbulence and multiphase flows, and higher energy density experiments at user facilities such as OMEGA and NIF.
The work includes opportunities to work on:
- Variable‑density flows and turbulence
- Shocked flows and dynamics
You will be part of a diverse team, and you will work on your own project with regular meetings with the team and your mentor. You will design, and set up your experiment, record and work to understand your experimental data. You will have opportunities to publish high‑quality experimental results and to present your work work closely with numerical physicists to simulate the experimental results and incorporate the experimental data into modeling efforts.
The LANL Postdoctoral Program is a pipeline for hiring technical staff at the Laboratory, many of whom first joined LANL as postdocs. Additional opportunities for career growth are offered through the LANL Postdoctoral Program, such as attending seminars on CV and proposal writing, networking events, and opportunities to attend talks covering a diverse range of scientific fields.
The Applied and Fundamental Physics Group (P‑2) at LANL is a diverse group of experimental physicists, engineers, technicians, and students engaged in a range of fundamental and applied research in nuclear physics beyond the Standard Model, neutrinos, dark matter, weapons physics, plasma physics, and fluid dynamics. We support a diverse program that includes scientists of many nationalities, participation in experiments worldwide, sponsorship of workshops and conferences, and classified experiments and analysis.
