General Assembly Technician
COMPA Industries is searching for qualified candidates for a General Assembly Technician position supporting Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) on advanced scientific and detector assembly projects.
Pay Rate: $30/hr – $35/hr
Location: Onsite – Fermilab (Batavia, IL)
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required
Work Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours/week)
Clearance: Ability to meet Fermilab access requirements
Contract Duration: 6 months with the possibility of hire or extension at client discretion
Scope of Work / ImpactThe General Assembly Technician will support Fermilab research and development programs by assisting with the assembly, integration, and testing of scientific detector components and mechanical systems. This role directly contributes to nationally significant experimental physics projects by ensuring high-quality assembly and reliable test results.
The technician works under the direction of Fermilab technical and engineering staff and follows established procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards.
Responsibilities and Duties- Assist with the mechanical assembly of systems and large components
- Perform gluing, bonding, and assembly operations according to written procedures
- Support carbon‑fiber layup and composite assembly activities
- Assist with detector production and subsystem integration
- Perform basic testing, measurements, and inspections of assembled components
- Use basic measuring tools and quality control (QC) equipment
- Document assembly activities, test results, and measurements
- Report progress and results to designated Fermilab technical staff
- Follow Fermilab safety policies, quality requirements, and work instructions
- Support schedule‑driven project milestones in a laboratory environment
- Assembled mechanical and detector components
- Test and measurement results
- Activity and progress reports as directed by Fermilab staff
Deliverable quantities and priorities will be task‑directed by Fermilab.
Quality AssuranceAll Work Must Comply With:
- Fermilab Quality Assurance Manual (QAM)
- Project‑specific assembly and test procedures
All work products will be reviewed and approved by designated Fermilab personnel.
Mandatory Qualifications – Read Before ApplyingCandidates must meet all of the following minimum requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in system or component assembly
- Hands‑on experience with mechanical assembly and bonding/gluing processes
- Experience working with basic measuring tools and QC equipment
- Ability to follow detailed technical instructions and procedures
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work effectively in a team‑based laboratory environment
Applications that do not meet these minimum requirements will not be considered.
Nice to Have- Experience with carbon‑fiber or composite layup
- Experience supporting scientific, laboratory, or DOE‑related projects
- Familiarity with detector assembly or test environments
