This position will be filled at the Nuclear Operations Professional (NOP) 3/4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Responsibilities- Work with the Conduct of Operations and Senior Supervisory Watch (SSW) team to provide mentorship, oversight, and project support to Con Ops and SSW initiatives.
- May be appointed to and serve as a member of Senior Supervisory Watch, supporting oversight and preparation for readiness activities leading up to Management Self-Assessments (MSAs) of new or restarted nuclear operations.
- Provide excellent problem‑solving skills, anticipate challenges, and resolve them with minimal supervision.
- Collaborate with staff from different organizations, contractors, and assessment teams.
- Develop and implement process improvements, provide ongoing technical conduct of operations/readiness support, and support group initiatives as directed by the Division.
- Report to the Con Ops/SSW First Line Manager, provide conduct of operations mentoring and coaching to workers and supervisors within ALDWP as assigned.
- Maintain safety and security training, assure compliance, and integrate safety and security into all tasks, including stopping work if continuing is unsafe or compromises security.
- Serve as the primary interface between the division and line management for mid‑sized or moderately complex assignments.
- Apply knowledge to develop instructions, procedures, standing orders, and reports.
- Negotiate with line managers to ensure resources are available and marshal resources to complete deliverables.
- Monitor performance, manage assignment scope, schedule, budget, and technical baselines under limited direction.
- Integrate moderately complex project work with other LANL priorities and commitments.
- Identify project risks, develop mitigation strategies, recommend risk acceptance/avoidance, and facilitate correct action.
- May serve as readiness team leader for MSA of new or restarted nuclear operations and/or serve as senior supervisory watch for safety oversight of nuclear operations.
- Demonstrated experience in advisory role such as subject matter expert, senior supervisory watch, or conduct of operations mentor; interacting with all levels of personnel, building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.
- Limited experience developing, leading, managing, and mentoring diverse project management teams, including supervision and development of employees.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; effective working relationships with all levels of staff; grammatical, formatting, and editing proficiency.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Project Management Institute certification desired.
Work location is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. The position commitment is one year continuous service. Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory; employees not meeting the required period may only apply with documented approval of their Division Leader.
Clearance & SecurityPosition requires a Q clearance. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Q clearance requires U.S. citizenship, except in extremely rare circumstances. Additional authorization to access classified information may be required and is a decision of the Federal Government.
Training & Program Participation- Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating suitability under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (U.S. citizens only). Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
