What You Will Do
The Engineering Services Division (ES-DO) develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative solutions in support of Los Alamos National Laboratory's scientific and national security mission. ES-DO is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Project Leader to support Engineering Services - Operations (ES-OPS). The ES-OPS organization delivers critical capabilities in Strategic Execution. These interconnected functions ensure ES-DO operates with accountability, compliance, efficiency, and alignment to institutional priorities.
This position requires a motivated and professional individual who can work independently, navigate a dynamic and evolving workload related to project/program assessments. The Project Leader will report to the ES-OPS Group Leader and provide day-to-day leadership, operational oversight, and project integration across these functions. The successful candidate will play an essential role in shaping the group s vision, strengthening workforce resilience, and fostering a high-performing team culture.
Project Leader 3 ($114,700 - $191,200)
- Guide program assessments to improve efficiency, innovation, and mission alignment
- Direct engineering initiatives with strong performance metrics, reporting, planning, and compliance to DOE/LANL requirements, delivering on scope, schedule, and budget
- Manage and resolve issue management by tracking progress, maintaining documentation, leading root cause analyses, and reporting status with risk mitigation recommendations
Minimum
Job Requirements:
- Leadership and Project Management:
Experience overseeing mid-sized program assessments and managing project team(s) in the planning, tracking, and execution of project plans from initiation to completion - Experience monitoring performance and managing, under change control, project scope, schedule, budget, and baselines with limited direction
- Demonstrated ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor a variety of team efforts to completion
- Communication and Stakeholder Management:
Experience integrating moderately complex project work with other priorities and commitments, including safety, security, environmental compliance, quality, contractor assurance, and business imperatives - Experience serving as the primary spokesperson to report program/project assessment status and issues to a program manager and to senior managers and workers with limited direction
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts
- Demonstrated experience in developing and nurturing effective mid-level internal customer relationships
Education/Experience at Project Leader 3: Position requires a bachelor s degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
