What You Will Do

The Weapons Production directorate (ALDWP) is seeking a highly motivated First Line Manager to support important national security missions at LANL, working in the Plutonium Supply and Disposition Division, Aqueous Recovery and Purification Operations Group (PSD-5). PSD Division leads and executes various key missions to support our nation's plutonium metal production and nuclear material recovery and recycle efforts as we produce the next generation of nuclear engineers and scientists.

We proudly support Material Recovery & Recycle (MR&R) as well as the Los Alamos Plutonium Pit Production Project (LAP4) modernization efforts to enable the future of plutonium missions and Americium production to support well logging for the United States.

This role works in a team environment within LANL's nuclear facility to manufacture product, support material movement and support glove box operations. The majority of daily work is hands-on glove box work in support of plutonium processing. Processes in our Plutonium Facility (PF-4) are performed using detailed operating procedures and work requires extensive knowledge and expertise following Conduct of Operations, nuclear criticality safety, material control and accountability, radiological safety and environmental compliance requirements.

Reporting to your Group Leader, you will provide management, leadership, and support the growth of one of five teams of 10 to 15 employees each, consisting of engineers, scientists, and technicians. As a First Line Manager, you will have responsibility, authority and accountability to execute work that supports programmatic milestones and deliverables while setting the standards for excellence and operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Planning, organizing, and defining strategic objectives.
  • Establishing scope, schedule, and budget through work package development, resource and performance management and ensuring worker qualification and authorization.
  • Delivering quality products and/or services; enforcing adherence to quality standards; achieving balance between productivity goals and quality standards.
  • Ensuring administrative and operating procedures are current, understood, and adhered to before releasing work.
  • Working with facility operations staff to execute work safely, securely, with quality, and in compliance with nuclear facility requirements.
  • Ensuring direct daily oversight of work, workers and the work environment.
  • Serving as the safety responsible line manager over people, equipment, and processes.
  • Ongoing communications with line management reporting on work status, deliverables and commitments.
  • Directing and overseeing work performed by employees including on-the-floor supervision.
  • Mentoring and motivating peers.
  • Providing financial stewardship over budget, procurement, time and labor, travel, and property.
What You Need Minimum

Job Requirements

Management: Experience in managing people and/or projects, including planning, organizing, and resource management, as well as demonstrated experience creating work scope, schedules, budgets, coordinating work activities, and tracking progress.

Financial Stewardship: Demonstrated experience with financial stewardship and in identification of resource requirements and development of schedules.

Leadership: Demonstrated experience in the ability to effectively supervise, negotiate, conduct conflict resolution, mentor, and conduct personnel development.

Communication: Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions, seminars, briefings, presentations, and publications; effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of personnel and customers. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical issues and solutions to employees, peers and upper management.
