Overview
What You Will Do
The Manufacturing Manager position at Los Alamos National Laboratory is responsible for managing and maintaining safe, secure, and compliant work environments at facilities enabling efficient and effective mission execution. The Manager provides support to the FOD and designated Manager over areas of Operations and Management of the TA55-Radiological Laboratory Utility Office Building (RLUOB). The selected candidate will be responsible for providing day-to-day oversight of operations.

Facility Management
- Thorough knowledge and experience of LANL or similar organization requirements for Integrated Safety Management, Formality of Operations, and Safety Basis.
- Demonstrated experience managing operations including organizations deployed to the facility (Maintenance, Engineering, Safety Basis, Operations, Radiation Protection, etc.).
- Thorough knowledge of and experience in operating a nuclear facility including: facility configuration control processes;
Safety Basis compliance to include tracking and implementing numerous and complex Technical Safety Requirements TSRs; all aspects of the integrative work management system including work package development and approval, work release, and work execution; waste management including storage, shipping, and disposal of various types of radiological and hazardous waste; experience in identifying and responding to abnormal and emergency events.
Safety & Security Compliance
- Thorough understanding of work hazard identification and control, safety practices, operating configuration, lock-out/tag-out and facility policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated experience working in radiological areas, working to radiological work permits, and adhering to postings.
- Demonstrated experience working to security plans, managing Material Balance Areas (MBAs), Limited Areas, etc.
Leadership and Communication
- Demonstrated experience and proven ability in supervising, employee performance management, conflict resolution, mentoring, team building and employee motivation and personnel development.
- Thorough knowledge of and experience managing business operations to include financial, human resources, procurement, and other related business activities.
- Demonstrated ability to appropriately prioritize work, proactively identify facility needs, and meet both internal and external deliverables on schedule.
- Demonstrated management/leadership ability to oversee a wide range of management functions, including directing the plan of the day/week process to ensure coordination of facility and programmatic operations; executing the notification, investigation and reporting processes regarding abnormal events; conduct fact findings; acting as an advisor to subordinate personnel to ensure professional development is encouraged and disciplined operations are continuously improved; and direct work activities that ensure that the facility is maintained within prescribed operating limits.
Education/Experience
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE Order 426.2A
Requires a bachelor of science degree in engineering or related science or technology, and 4 years of nuclear experience. Job-related education or experience may be substituted on a case-by-case basis. The degree may be used to substitute up to 50 percent of the experience requirement per section I 4.e of the Contractor Requirements Document (CRD).
Desired Qualifications
- Background in DOE Nuclear Facility operations.
- Knowledge and understanding of Nuclear Facility conduct of maintenance, conduct of engineering, conduct of operations and quality assurance programs.
- Experience in performing Safety Basis implementations and startup readiness activities, including contractor and federal operational readiness reviews.
- Experience in supporting and leading management self-assessments, including identifying and ranking issues, developing corrective actions, and tracking them to closure via the Issues Management System, or a similar system.
- Demonstrated experience managing RCRA waste storage areas including knowledge of chemical storage, segregation, and handling requirements.
Work Schedule
This position may require 24/7 coverage, which could involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.
Work Location
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
