Position: Shift Operations Manager (Manufacturing Manager 3)

What You Will Do

The Shift Operations Manager position at Los Alamos National Laboratory is responsible for managing and maintaining safe, secure, and compliant work environments at facilities enabling efficient and effective mission execution. The Shift Operations Manager provides support to the FOD and designated Operations Manager over areas of Operations and Management of facilities at TA-50 (RLWF). The selected candidate will be responsible for providing day‑to‑day oversight of operations within RLWF, a Haz Cat III Nuclear Facility.

As a FOD Manager, you will assist in the oversight and manage multifaceted activities of the RLWF Facility Operations Group operational support personnel. This will include Project Management, Conduct of Operations, procedure writing, work control and configuration, scheduling and outage planning.

What You Need Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of LANL requirements for Integrated Safety Management, Formality of Operations, and Safety Basis.
  • Thorough understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, lock‑out/tag‑out and facility policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee facility operations, technical surveillance tracking, and safety program implementation.
  • Demonstrated management/leadership ability to oversee a wide range of management functions, including directing the plan of the day/week process to ensure coordination of facility and programmatic operations; executing the notification, investigation and reporting processes regarding abnormal events; performing as a critique director; acting as an advisor to subordinate personnel to ensure professional development is encouraged and disciplined operations are continuously improved;

    and direct work activities that ensure the facility is maintained within prescribed operating limits.
  • Demonstrated experience managing operations including organizations deployed to the facility (Maintenance, Engineering, Safety Basis, Operations, Radiation Protection, etc.).
  • Background in chemistry or biochemistry.
Education / Experience

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

DOE Order 426.2A:
Requires a Baccalaureate degree in engineering or a related science or technology and 4 years of nuclear experience. Job‑related education or experience may be substituted on a case‑by‑case basis. The degree may be used to substitute up to 50 percent of the experience requirement per section I 4.e of the CRD.

Desired Qualifications
  • Background in industrial facility operations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of wastewater processes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Nuclear Facility conduct of maintenance, conduct of engineering, conduct of operations and quality assurance programs.
  • In‑depth knowledge of the Laboratory’s organizational structure and objectives. Demonstrated ability to serve as a member of the Facility Incident Command during emergency response.
Work Location

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
