What You Will Do- Supervise and mentor Respiratory Protection Technicians who perform respirator fit‑testing, issuance, sanitation, maintenance, and training support.
- Coordinate multi‑site operations, ensuring consistent implementation across RPP service locations, including scheduling of staff, resource allocation, workload balancing, and coverage for mission‑critical operations.
- Manage and improve respirator inventory processes, including oversight of equipment tracking, lifecycle management, readiness checks, and implementation of scalable inventory systems and digital tools.
- Ensure the program’s compliance with OSHA 29 CFR , DOE 10 CFR 851, and LANL institutional requirements.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, workflow guidance, training content, and documentation needed to support RPP activities.
- Lead quality assurance initiatives, internal assessments, and corrective actions to improve service delivery and operational reliability.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with customers, facility operations, logistics, occupational health, and other OSH programs to ensure timely, high‑quality support.
- Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement, ensuring the RPP team contributes effectively to LANL’s mission execution and compliance framework.
Job Requirements
- Supervisory or technical leadership experience in respiratory protection, industrial hygiene, safety operations, or related technical fields.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams performing respirator fit‑testing, issuance, training support, or equipment maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of respiratory protection program requirements, including OSHA 29 CFR , respirator types, limitations, fit‑testing methods, cleaning/sanitation protocols, and program documentation standards.
- Proven ability to manage and improve operational workflows, including scheduling, process mapping, resource coordination, and metrics‑based program evaluation.
- Experience implementing or managing inventory or asset‑tracking systems, including digital or enterprise‑level tools used for equipment control, lifecycle management, and operational reporting.
- Effective communication skills and demonstrated ability to engage with employees, customers, facility operations, and management across multiple organizations.
- Ability to handle sensitive operational demands while maintaining professionalism, service orientation, and attention to detail.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” level clearance.
Training or experience in managing personal protection equipment, processes, and personnel in a complex, high‑risk operational environment.
Education/ExperiencePosition requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications- Strong understanding of Department of Energy (DOE) requirements, including 10 CFR 851 Worker Safety and Health Program and Integrated Safety Management (ISM).
- Knowledge of LANL and DOE/NNSA missions, as well as LANL management systems and requirements in areas such as personnel, budgeting, procurement, and safety.
- Experience supervising respirator fit‑testing programs, multi‑location service operations, or safety equipment distribution programs.
- Experience deploying or managing enterprise‑scale systems for tracking equipment, inventory, training, or workflows.
- Familiarity with PPE program management or the ability to oversee PPE processes adjacent to RPP operations.
The work location for this position is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
