What You Will Do
The selected candidate will be a member of the LANL Technical Security team to work with the Communications Security (COMSEC) Program. The COMSEC Program reinforces DOE O. 470.6 and NNSA SD 470.6 responsibilities for accurate accountability, proper management, and control of COMSEC equipment and materials within NNSA.
Responsibilities include operational activities of the COMSEC program:
- Properly safeguard, account for, control, disposition, and inventory all COMSEC material.
- Maintain organized and accurate records of all transactions and associated documentation required for the COMSEC program.
- Serve as a resource for COMSEC policy by ensuring exact compliance with LANL, NNSA, DOE, and national COMSEC policies, operational manuals, procedures.
- Conduct and participate in self-assessments and laboratory-wide COMSEC audits and inventories.
- Communicate with laboratory customers, federal oversight, and the DOE Central Office of Record (COR).
- Manage physical security controls that protect COMSEC assets, keys & cores, safes, and vaults/vault type rooms (VTR).
Minimum
Job Requirements:
- Knowledge and experience with computer security for classified information security and communications security systems. Knowledge of computer workstations, servers, and area networks.
- Knowledge of operation of cryptographic equipment, secure transmission of classified information and sensitive unclassified information and protection of cryptographic principles and methods.
- Knowledge and experience with asset tracking and inventory.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and understand COMSEC program policies, practices, and procedures.
Education/
Experience:
Requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Active DOE Q clearance or Department of Defense (DoD) Top Security clearance.
- Experience with COMSEC as a custodian, alternate custodian or operator.
- Experience as a vault/VTR, or classified matter custodian.
- Experience with technical elements of classified and unclassified government networks.
- Extensive knowledge of operations and security requirements at the Laboratory.
- Extensive knowledge of computer workstations, servers, and area networks.
- Experience developing and managing complex security programs, projects, or plans.
The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position CommitmentRegular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 Year.
