Position: Contractor Assurance Specialist 2/3

What You Will Do

Do you thrive on uncovering what happened, why it happened, and how to prevent recurrence? We're looking for a Contractor Assurance Specialist (CAS 2/3) within Production Assurance (PA-3) to support abnormal event investigations, performance analysis, and Contractor Assurance System (CAS) implementation across production operations.

As part of the Assurance Performance & Governance (PA-3) organization, this role integrates occurrence investigation, causal analysis, corrective action management, and performance trending to strengthen production mission delivery and regulatory compliance. You will work closely with production organizations, subject matter experts, and management to ensure events are accurately reported, causes are thoroughly analyzed, and corrective actions effectively reduce risk. You'll be part of a team that applies structured investigative and analytical methodologies to enable institutional learning and continuous improvement across production operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and submit occurrence reports (initial, update, and final) in accordance with DOE reporting requirements, ensuring factual accuracy and compliance.
  • Conduct occurrence investigations for production-related abnormal events, including fact gathering, worker interviews, SME coordination, and timeline development.
  • Perform causal analyses using structured methodologies (e.g., 5-Why, barrier analysis, change analysis, events and causal factor charting, Ishikawa, Blue Dragon as appropriate).
  • Apply DOE cause codes and ensure accurate documentation within institutional Issues Management systems.
  • Support development and evaluation of corrective actions using SMART principles and hierarchy of controls.
  • Contribute to performance trending and reporting in support of Assurance Performance & Governance (PA-3).
  • Support implementation and deployment of CAS processes across production organizations.
  • Research and evaluate regulatory changes, industry practices, and institutional performance data affecting production assurance.
  • Prepare clear, concise technical reports, summaries, and briefings for management and stakeholders.
Contractor Assurance Specialist 2
  • You will demonstrate working knowledge of contractor assurance processes and support the execution of abnormal event investigations and CAS activities. You should have experience gathering and organizing factual information, applying at least one formal causal analysis method, and supporting corrective action tracking.
  • Perform assigned portions of investigations and reporting activities.
  • Apply defined investigative and analytical procedures under established guidance.
  • Support data analysis and documentation efforts.
  • Collaborate with production personnel and SMEs to ensure accurate event documentation.
  • Develop technical writing skills aligned with DOE reporting expectations.
Contractor Assurance Specialist 3

In addition to CAS 2 responsibilities, the CAS 3 applies broader knowledge of production operations, regulatory requirements, and investigative methodologies.

  • Independently conduct occurrence investigations affecting production operations.
  • Develop ORPS-compliant reports and respond to DOE/NNSA feedback.
  • Select and apply appropriate causal analysis tools based on event complexity.
  • Coordinate with Responsible Line Managers (RLMs) to support effective corrective action development and Extent of Condition (EoC) or Extent of Cause (EoCa) evaluations.
  • Analyze trends in abnormal events and corrective action effectiveness to identify systemic concerns.
  • Provide technical input supporting Assurance Performance & Governance reporting and performance monitoring.
Minimum Requirements
  • Working knowledge of event investigation, corrective action management, performance improvement, metrics/trending/analysis, risk characterization, compliance, or Operating Excellence principles.
  • Experience gathering event information and applying at least one formal causal analysis methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly, concisely, and accurately while meeting regulatory reporting requirements.
