Position: HR Generalists 1/2

Overview

Discover a world of opportunity in one of the Human Resources Field Services (HR-FS) Groups at Los Alamos National Laboratory! We have opportunities for entry and mid-level HR professionals. As an HR Generalist, you will be a key member of the team that enables the Laboratory to accomplish its mission by providing strategic guidance and high-level support to management on HR products and services while implementing a wide range of HR programs.

Position levels

Human Resources Generalist 1 ($64,700 - $101,400)

  • Requires an entry-level professional familiar with HR knowledge and best practices. At this level, the candidate will advise stakeholders on HR policies and procedures, complete a wide array of personnel actions, and provide support and coaching on common and moderately complex HR issues.

Human Resources Generalist 2 ($78,700 - $125,100)

  • Requires an experienced professional with specialized HR knowledge. At this level, the candidate will have a full understanding of HR core competencies and resolve a wide range of complex HR issues. In addition to Generalist 1 duties, the candidate will lead process improvement initiatives, mentor junior staff, and partner with all HR Functions to execute Lab-wide HR initiatives at the division and group level.
Responsibilities
  • Advise stakeholders on HR policies and procedures and provide guidance on a wide range of HR actions (e.g., personnel actions, salary actions, terminations) and employee relations issues.
  • Support and coach on common and moderately complex HR issues; assist with workforce planning, compensation, benefits, training, and related areas as needed.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives, mentor junior staff (HR Generalist
    2), and collaborate with HR functions to execute Lab-wide HR initiatives.
Minimum

Job Requirements
  • HR Business Acumen: Basic working knowledge of HR theories, principles, and practices. Demonstrated experience advising stakeholders on HR policies and procedures and completing HR actions. Ability to interpret and apply HR policy and procedures.
  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrated experience with HR systems (e.g., Oracle, People Soft) and databases (e.g., Microsoft Excel) to input, retrieve, organize, and report HR data and metrics.
  • Relationship Management: Ability to work with customers to understand their business needs, resolve issues, and apply policy to achieve goals. Ability to coach and train a broad audience.
  • Ethical Practice: Direct experience maintaining confidentiality and protecting PII.
  • Planning and Prioritization: Ability to manage a high volume of assignments, adapt to shifting priorities, meet deadlines, and multi-task in a detail-oriented, fast-paced environment.
  • Education/Experience at HR Generalist 1 level: Bachelor's degree and minimum 2 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional requirements for HR Generalist level 2
  • HR Business Acumen: Specialized knowledge of HR theories, principles, and understanding of HR as an interrelated system. Significant experience completing HR actions.
  • Leadership: Ability to mentor junior staff, roll out and manage HR process improvements, and build networks across boundaries.
  • Education/Experience at HR Generalist 2 level: Bachelor's degree and minimum 5 years related experience, or equivalent; a relevant HR certification is preferred.
Desired qualifications
  • Professional certification (PHR, SPHR) is highly desirable.
  • Detailed knowledge of organization and LANL structure, mission, and goals.
  • Active DOE Q clearance.
Work Environment

Work Location:

Telework is available and located in proximity to LANL. Telework is defined as working from offsite but within a 2-hour ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at management discretion and can change with notice.

Position Commitment:
Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position to be eligible for posted jobs Laboratory-wide. The position commitment for this role is 1 year.
