Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Occupational Safety and Health - Industrial Safety and Hygiene (OSH-ISH) group is seeking a motivated Industrial Hygiene and Safety professional to support and co‑lead institutional safety programs, including the Respiratory Protection Program (RPP), and other programs such as Machine Safeguarding, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and Confined Space Safety. The OSH‑ISH group is a key component of the Occupational Safety and Health Division within the Environment, Safety, Health, and Quality (ESHQ) Associate Laboratory Directorate.

The selected candidate will help ensure that these programs meet all applicable DOE and OSHA regulatory requirements while maintaining alignment with LANL policies and operational needs. Primary areas of focus include program oversight, documentation, training, and process improvement. The professional will help ensure consistent implementation of respirator inventory management, PPE issuance, equipment safeguarding, and confined space safety processes across the Laboratory.

This position will also be responsible for developing, reviewing, and maintaining program‑level and policy‑level documents, including writing formal interpretations of DOE and OSHA standards in coordination with ESHQ management. The successful candidate will work closely with program leads, technicians, and customers to evaluate performance, resolve issues, and continuously improve program quality and compliance.

  • Support teamwork, safety, and quality in all program activities.
IH&S Professional 3 ($104,100 - $172,200)

In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the Professional 3 will operate with greater independence and serve as a co‑lead for the Respiratory Protection Program and related safety programs.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Serve as co‑lead or backup lead for the Respiratory Protection Program, ensuring compliance with 29 CFR  and DOE 10 CFR 851.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance for the Machine Safeguarding, PPE, and Confined Space programs.
  • Author, review, and maintain policy‑level documents, including procedures, program descriptions, and institutional safety requirements.
  • Develop and issue formal interpretations to DOE and OSHA standards in coordination with ESHQ management and compliance authorities.
  • Develop, review, and maintain program documents, standard operating procedures, and training content.
  • Serve as subject‑matter expert during audits, assessments, and corrective action reviews for all assigned safety programs.
