About the Role

COMPA Industries is seeking a Principal Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide the highest level of specialized technical advisory support for complex engineering and project management activities at Los Alamos National Laboratory. This is a national leader-level role - you will be recognized in your field, sought out for expert opinions on the most technically demanding challenges, and trusted to provide authoritative guidance to project teams, senior management, and customer representatives supporting critical DOE missions.

This position is for an elite technical professional who has spent decades mastering a highly specialized discipline and is ready to apply that expertise at the forefront of national security and high-technology engineering programs.

🚫 Mandatory Requirements - Must Meet All to Be Considered
  • 25+ years of overall professional experience with 20+ years in a highly specialized technical area
  • Advanced degree (PhD, Master's with specialized training, or Bachelor's with extensive specialized training) in Engineering, Science, or Business Management
  • Recognized as a national leader in your applicable subject matter area
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance
What You'll Do
  • Provide expert advisory guidance in a highly specialized area of organization management and/or project management at the most senior level
  • Render authoritative expert opinions on complex engineering and technical issues; provide high-level recommendations to project design, construction, and operations teams
  • Conduct independent reviews and assessments in areas of specialized expertise, delivering findings to senior management and customer representatives
  • Manage and direct daily tasks required to support design, construction, startup, and/or operations and maintenance of complex, high-technology systems and projects
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to project teams; coordinate with functional organizations and supervise senior personnel within the project organization
  • Develop and enforce work standards, assign schedules, and review work quality across assigned programs
  • Communicate organizational goals, objectives, and policies to project teams and subordinates
  • Interface directly with management personnel and customer representatives on matters requiring the highest level of technical authority
  • Support delivery of results on projects of complex, high-technology nature in a highly regulated DOE environment
What You Bring

Required:

  • 25+ years of professional experience, including 20+ years in a highly specialized technical discipline
  • PhD, Master's degree with specialized training, or Bachelor's degree with extensive specialized training in Engineering, Science, or Business Management
  • Demonstrated national-level recognition as a subject matter expert in your applicable field
  • Proven experience providing expert-level advisory support to senior management and customer representatives
  • Experience leading and supervising senior technical personnel on complex, high-technology programs
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE), Project Management Professional (PMP), or other relevant industry or professional licensure or certification
  • PhD in a directly applicable engineering or scientific discipline
  • Prior experience in DOE, DOD, or other highly regulated facility environments
  • Demonstrated experience developing and enforcing work standards across large, multidisciplinary project teams
