What You Will Do
The Associate Laboratory Directorate for Environment, Safety, Health, Quality, and Safeguards and Security (ALDESHQSS) has a need for operational Industrial Hygiene and Safety Professionals supporting LANL programs and projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) through the LANL Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Division. Reporting to the IHS Manager for Deployed Services, the Industrial Hygiene and Safety (IHS) Professional will be responsible for developing, recommending, and implementing programs and procedures associated with the recognition, measurement, evaluation, and control of potential health and safety hazards.
The IHS Professional will provide daily industrial hygiene and safety support to programmatic and facility organizations to ensure the protection of workers, compliance with Laboratory S&H requirements, and mission success. The IHS Professional will use professional concepts and Laboratory objectives to resolve complex issues creatively. The IHS Professional will collaborate with the workforce in developing solutions to complex ESH problems that require in-depth analysis of work activities and data.

The OSH-Deployed Services group seeks Industrial Hygiene and Safety (IHS) Professionals to support the Utilities and Infrastructure (UI) and Science, Technologies, and Engineering (STE) teams. This role is expected to be a fully-functioning, seasoned professional who develops, reviews, and supports the implementations of programs and procedures associated with the recognition, measurement, evaluation, and control of potential health and safety hazards.
IH&S Professional 4 ($117,200-$195,400)In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, the higher level may provide daily industrial hygiene and safety support of programmatic or facility work, and/or may manage and administer complex, high-risk institutional industrial hygiene and safety programs or services. The IH/S Professional 4 contributes to the development of organizational goals and objectives and builds productive, high-level, internal and external working relationships to accomplish required tasks with minimal direction.

Job Requirements:
- Advanced knowledge, and demonstrated application, of DOE and regulatory requirements related to industrial hygiene and safety in a research environment.
- Advanced knowledge of and experience implementing industrial hygiene/safety-related risk assessments and corrective actions.
- Advanced knowledge and application of techniques and procedures for industrial hygiene exposure assessment (both qualitative and quantitative), to include sampling and sampling techniques/instrumentation, sample analysis, and selection/implementation of controls.
- Advanced skill in the preparation and communication of industrial hygiene/safety technical information to technical and non-technical personnel.
- Advanced knowledge and ability to apply the hierarchy of controls to eliminate or mitigate hazards while ensuring mission success.
- Advanced experience and skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to industrial hygiene and safety related problems.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively within a team environment and provide excellent customer service.
- Experience supporting Integrated Work Management (IWM) through the development and review of Integrated Work Documents (IWDs).
- Experience conducting field measurements as part of a comprehensive Exposure Assessment Program.
Job Requirements for higher level title:
- Expert knowledge and experience analyzing complex safety data to identify trends.
- Expert experience recommending hazard reduction actions.
- Expert experience independently developing and implementing IH&S programs.
- Experience mentoring junior staff.
- Expert experience and skill in preparing expert-level technical reports based on data observations, and current regulations.
Position requires a Bachelor's in Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety, and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at higher level:Position requires a Bachelor's in Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety, and 12 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
