About the RoleCOMPA Industries is seeking CAD/BIM Designers to support preconstruction and execution activities at Los Alamos National Laboratory. In this role, you’ll produce detailed drawings, layouts, shop drawings, and material takeoffs that directly enable fabrication and installation efforts for mission-critical mechanical, electrical, and fire suppression system projects within a highly regulated technical environment.

🚫 Mandatory Requirements - Must Meet All to Be Considered- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance (active clearance preferred)
- Hands‑on CAD drafting experience with AutoCAD - applications without CAD experience will not be considered
- Willingness and ability to work 100% onsite, including performing walkdowns in radiological areas
- Valid driver’s license required
- Produce and detail routine drawings and layouts of components, facilities, and systems
- Generate and modify CAD drawings of moderate complexity from engineering‑provided information
- Develop CAD drawings and design models under the direction of a senior designer
- Support design reviews and drawing revisions in alignment with industry codes and customer specifications
- Learn and apply company and industry drafting standards in a structured technical environment
- High school diploma and 1–2 years of related drafting/design experience (or equivalent)
- Basic proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD software
- Ability to work onsite in a radiological environment and follow established safety procedures
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn under mentorship
- Produce and detail drawings and layouts of moderate complexity for facilities and mechanical systems
- Generate and modify CAD drawings and design models based on engineering input and design intent
- Apply industry codes, standards, and customer specifications to drawings, layouts, and work plans
- Develop shop drawings with accurate dimensions to support craft installation
- Perform material takeoffs from native files and support procurement with accurate material ordering
- Perform basic calculations in support of technical design problems
- Apply engineering design principles to the design and fabrication of components and assemblies
- Participate in two‑phase design review cycles (initial and final) and conduct pre‑construction design reviews to ensure readiness for execution
- Conduct walkdowns at TA‑55, PF‑4, and various warehouses (government vehicle provided)
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and deliver work within budget and schedule constraints
- High school diploma and 3–5 years of related drafting/design experience (or equivalent)
- Working knowledge of industry drafting standards and mechanical drawing practices
- Demonstrated CAD experience, including developing drawings and supporting design reviews
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) or 3D modeling tools
- Mechanical drafting experience (primary focus), with exposure to electrical or fire suppression systems
- Experience supporting preconstruction design reviews and material takeoffs
- CAD certification is highly beneficial
