What You Will Do
The Engineering Services Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative engineering solutions that enable the Laboratory's scientific and national security mission. This position is within the Engineering Services Division Office (ES-DO). ES Groups are responsible for implementing the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program at Los Alamos National Laboratory in support of systems, structure and component modifications and new installations.
As well as supporting existing systems, modifications and customers occupying the facilities.
This position supports the Weapons Facilities Operations (WFO) portfolio consisting of nuclear, accelerator and non-nuclear facilities, spanning half of the laboratory's footprint. As a facilities structural system engineer in this area, you will directly support facilities with a direct impact on LANL's stockpile stewardship mission. Daily tasks include but are not limited to response to emerging facility issues, configuration management including facility technical baseline management, electrical/pressure safety support, reviewing designs for facility modification and providing system health reporting.
The architect role supports a business function that implements the framework for the disciplined execution of effective architecture at LANL through application of national consensus codes and standards, recognized quality standards, Department of Energy (DOE) Orders, Laboratory requirements, and federal, state, and local regulations. The position will be expected to integrate with other disciplines, document control, safety basis, operations, maintenance, project management, or any other organization that needs architectural input to accomplish LANL deliverables.
Must be able to work as part of a team. Applies broad and diversified knowledge of architectural principles and practices in the preparation of deliverables. Utilizes applicable technology to accomplish work and continuously improves work processes to meet customer needs. All work at LANL must meet safety, security, and mission requirements.
Architect 3 ($104,100 - $172,200)
- Provide control and maintenance of the technical baseline of the facility equipment
- Ensure facility system configuration is effectively managed using a risk-based graded approach
- Follow the LANL Conduct of Engineering (CoE) Program in support of facility modifications and facility configuration management in accordance with LANL standards and procedures
Facility Systems Expertise
- Serve as a subject matter expert on assigned facilities
- Provide technical interface to existing facility systems and components
- Adhere to LANL architectural policies, programs, standards, and practices
Architectural Design and Planning
- Consult with customers to determine functional and spatial requirements for new structures or renovations
- Provide architectural programming expertise in support of institutional project, infrastructure, and facility planning
- Plan layout of projects and integrate architectural elements into unified designs
- Prepare scale drawings and other bid and contract documents
- Conduct observations of work during construction to monitor compliance with contract drawings and specifications
Project Leadership and Regulatory Compliance
- Viewed as a subject matter expert within the field at the Laboratory
- Research, assemble, and/or evaluate complex information or data regarding industry practices or applicable regulatory changes affecting architecture policies or programs; recommend sound, practical solutions to complex issues
- Understand and adhere to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to architectural design and execution
Architect 4 ($125,200 - $211,300)
