What You Will Do
At Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), we address the nation's most critical security challenges through simultaneous excellence in science, engineering, and operations.
The Nuclear Process Infrastructure (NPI) Division - Plutonium Capability Transuranic Waste Management (NPI-6) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced leader to serve as a Nuclear Operations Professional. In this role, you will lead projects supporting transuranic (TRU) waste characterization and packaging. NPI-6 ensures safe, efficient, and compliant waste management for waste generated at the TA-55 Plutonium Facility, the Chemistry and Metallurgy Research (CMR) building, the TA-50 Radioactive Liquid Waste Treatment Facility (RLWTF), and the Radiological Laboratory Utility Office Building (RLUOB).
NPI-6 ensures that all activities in these facilities are conducted in compliance with applicable environmental regulations and Laboratory policies.
You will provide both strategic and day‑to‑day leadership to assigned projects—directing teams, coordinating schedules, planning activities, ensuring milestone achievements, and managing resources to deliver safe, secure, and compliant outcomes.
This position plays a key role in strengthening collaboration between stakeholders in support of LANL's mission to modernize plutonium pit production facilities and advance critical construction initiatives.
Nuclear Operations Professional 2Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead the execution and oversight of projects involving transuranic and mixed hazardous waste management.
- Contribute to resolutions to various routine operational scope problems, utilizing analysis of situations or data to review a variety of factors.
- Assist in the development of plans for and direction of implementation of safety, security, and environmental policies at nuclear facilities.
- Ensure the successful, on‑schedule completion of discrete technical and operational projects by defining clear technical requirements and deliverables, and leading project teams through comprehensive planning, performance tracking, and full lifecycle execution from initiation to closeout.
- Assist in overseeing and managing self‑assessments and incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are accurately identified, effectively implemented, and fully resolved. Demonstrate the ability to develop comprehensive work package scopes, define deliverables, allocate resources, and establish reliable forecasting methodologies to support successful project execution.
- Oversee safety management program in the completion of nuclear facility Readiness Review.

Job Requirements
- Regulations: Demonstrated record of safety and security compliance. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding/adherence to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to the work and work area to which assigned.
- Skills/
Experience:
Demonstrated working knowledge and experience in managing technical and operational projects, including projects development, and preparation of detailed work packages. - Leadership: Proven ability to effectively plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts through to successful completion.
- Teamwork: Proven experience in building and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships.
- Communication: Skilled in engaging with personnel at all levels, fostering trust, building consensus, and resolving conflicts. Possesses excellent oral and written communication, along with strong presentation abilities.
- Education: Position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
- DOE Order 426.2A: Requires High School Diploma (or equivalent, i.e., GED).
- Clearance and Mandatory
Certifications:
The ability to obtain a Q‑clearance.
- Knowledge of TA‑55 facility operations and NPI mission.
- Experience working within LANL policies and procedures.
