What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Industrial Hygiene & Safety Professional 3 or the Industrial Hygiene & Safety Professional 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. The Associate Laboratory Directorate for Environment, Safety, Health, Quality, and Safeguards and Security (ALDESHQ) has a need for several operational Industrial Hygiene and Safety Professionals supporting LANL programs and projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) through the LANL Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Division.
Reporting to the OSH-PPS Manager, the Industrial Hygiene and Safety (IHS) Professional will be responsible for developing, recommending, and implementing programs and procedures associated with the recognition, measurement, evaluation, and control of potential health and safety hazards. The IHS Professional will provide daily industrial hygiene and safety support to programmatic and facility organizations to ensure the protection of workers, compliance with Laboratory S&H requirements, and mission success.
The IHS Professional will use professional concepts and Laboratory objectives to resolve complex issues creatively and will collaborate with the workforce in developing solutions to complex ESH problems that require in-depth analysis of work activities and data. The IHS Professional will promote safety, security, and quality in all operations; exercise prudent fiscal and property management; promote teamwork within the organization and across the Laboratory;
promote a positive work environment; and deliver exceptional customer service. This position is an opportunity for a motivated, innovative, and customer focused professional to support an established team.
- Support LANL programs and projects as an operational Industrial Hygiene and Safety Professional.
- Develop, recommend, and implement programs and procedures for recognition, measurement, evaluation, and control of health and safety hazards.
- Provide daily IH&S support to programmatic and facility organizations to protect workers and ensure compliance with Laboratory S&H requirements.
- Resolve complex issues using professional concepts and laboratory objectives; collaborate with the workforce to develop solutions to ESH problems.
- Promote safety, security, and quality in all operations and foster a positive work environment and exceptional customer service.
IH&S Professional 3 ,200)
- Support the TA55 and CWF teams in the Plutonium Production Support group; develop, review, and support implementations of programs for health and safety hazard recognition and control.
IH&S Professional 4 ($114,700-$191,200)
- May provide daily IH&S support of programmatic or facility work and/or manage complex, high-risk institutional IH&S programs or services.
- Contribute to development of organizational goals, build productive working relationships, and operate with minimal direction.
Minimum
Job Requirements:
- Experience evaluating work activities to recommend protective equipment and risk controls.
- Experience reviewing plans and designs to ensure proper hazard mitigation.
- Experience supporting Integrated Work Management (IWM) through the development and review of Integrated Work Documents (IWDs).
- Experience conducting field measurements as part of a comprehensive Exposure Assessment Program.
- Ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance.
Additional Job Requirements for IH&S Professional 4:
- Advanced knowledge and experience analyzing complex safety data to identify trends.
- Advanced experience recommending hazard reduction actions.
- Advanced experience independently developing and implementing IH&S programs.
- Experience mentoring junior staff.
- Advanced experience and skill in preparing expert-level technical reports based on data observations and current regulations.
Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's in Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety, and 8 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's in Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety, and 12 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications- Broad knowledge of LANL organizations, operations, and activities.
- Experience with LANL ESH data collection tools and databases.
- Expert level knowledge in air monitoring and contamination control.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Active Q clearance.
