Overview
What You Will Do We are seeking an Operations Manager for the LANSCE Facility Operations Division. The position provides leadership, technical direction, and oversight of facility operations. The Operations Manager directs daily operations and coordinates facility activities to ensure safe and compliant operations. The role ensures overall safety and security of operations and holds deployed functions (e.g., ESH&Q, Engineering, Maintenance) accountable for performance in their areas of responsibility.
The Operations Manager will provide oversight during shutdowns, upgrades, and production and offer technical expertise during accelerator maintenance outages. The role strives to provide extraordinary customer service to facility tenants, programmatic operations, and other customers within assigned facilities.
- Maintain operation of facilities within the established Accelerator Safety Envelope (ASE) and Safety Assessment Document (SAD)
- Provide oversight to assure compliance with safety and security policies, environmental requirements, and other applicable DOE/governmental orders
- Support Conduct of Operations and Conduct of Maintenance and Engineering processes as they pertain to accelerator operations
- Provide oversight and technical guidance during experimental operations and maintenance
- Provide support for facility-related issues, including coordination of maintenance, programmatic activities, and communication with facility tenants
- Provide support for facility/system operating conditions, including configuration management and control
- Serve as a resource in the operation and monitoring of facility systems that support accelerator operations
- Support, coordinate, and ensure compliance with Operations processes for planning, activity review, and progress tracking
- Participate in the LANSCE-FO Duty Officer program and rotate as a Duty Officer; ability to respond to abnormal and emergency events during off-shift hours
Minimum Requirements:
- Ability to provide operations supervisory oversight, including technical direction, program execution, and sound business judgment
- Ability to function as a member of a division-level management team; to work effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel; and to gain consensus, build teams, and resolve conflicts
- Ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics
- Ability to utilize and manipulate a computerized work management system in maintaining and tracking project activities
- Knowledge of Conduct of Operations, Conduct of Maintenance, and Conduct of Engineering programs
- Knowledge of operational management including systems, engineering design and maintenance, regulatory frameworks, safety/authorization basis, configuration management programs, work control, facility control systems, and major construction projects
- Ability to identify problem areas, investigate solutions, and determine actions to be performed
- Knowledge of work planning and control, including hazard identification, hazard analysis, and implementing controls using the hierarchy of controls for a wide range of complex and hazardous activities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentations and report writing
- Ability to gain cooperation of others and present technical information regarding specific projects or schedules
Education/
Experience:
Position requires a bachelor's degree and three years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education
Desired
Qualifications:
- Experience dealing with organizations deployed to the FOD (Maintenance, Engineering, Safety Basis, Operations, Radiation Protection, etc.)
- Experience in nuclear material management; familiarity with working with accountable nuclear materials
- Ability to oversee accelerator operations and safety basis program implementation
- Experience in implementation of LANL Conduct of Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Training programs
- Experience in abnormal event response and incident investigations and lessons learned
- Experience leading process improvement initiatives with evidence of successful outcomes
- Ability to manage, supervise, and oversee human resources administration for assigned employees
- Ability to obtain a DOE Q-Clearance
The work location is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management. The position is physically located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Position CommitmentRegular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position to be eligible for posted jobs laboratory-wide. The position commitment for this role is 1 year.
